I can't believe I'm lying to two of the most important people in my life. Like I said before, I was the one to put this restriction on us. I can't even let Derek know.
"I tried your alias."
"Well, I wanted some time by myself."
My phone pings in my pocket and I look to see a text from Marcus. I ignored his call, didn't return it, and now he's texting me.
Marcus
When will you be coming up next?
"Just a moment, Greg, let me respond to this text." I excuse myself as I pull the phone out completely and respond.
Me
Busy for a while, don't see myself making it up there any time soon.
Marcus
I want to see you.
Me
I’m busy with work. Need to go, having brunch with friends.
Marcus
You have time for them but not me?
Me
It's Greg and Derek.
Marcus
They take up too much of your time, they aren't even family. Come home. I want to see you.
Me
I told you, I'm busy. Bye.
Therein lies the problem, Boston isn't my home, Marcus isn't my family, and lately I've felt uncomfortable around him.
"Everything okay, sweetheart?"
"Yeah, just Marcus pushing for me to go to Boston. I'm too busy right now."
"I have you both set up to take the Air Marshal training in October."
"Okay," both Derek and I answer.
I love when Greg sets me up with additional training.
"I'm heading to the hospital later to check on David."
"He's been moved to the consulate with a private physician."
"Well, guess I won't see him before he leaves. I can't show up there or it will really blow our cover."
