Wolf intervened. “I know you want blood, but trust me and get your woman to the ER, brother. I promise we got this.”
“Wolf,” Cam gritted out, the word carrying rivers of fury and mountains of frustration.
Sabrina sensed his need for vengeance as a tangible emotion. She coughed and made another effort to speak and be understood. “Cam, I think I need a doctor.”
“Fuck!” exploded from Cam’s mouth. “You let those motherfuckers know this isn’t over.”
The leader of the Knights inclined his head. “You have my word.”
Cam moved to lift her, but Crossman got there first. “Let me. You’ll fuck up your arm again.”
“You’re killin’ me, man.”
Crossman inclined his head. “I know, but I’m also protecting you.”
Sabrina held her breath against the pain as she was lifted and cradled against the biker’s chest. If her eyes had worked better, she would have seen Specs and Billy trussed up on the floor. She sought Cam’s hazy figure as an adrenaline crash got closer.
“Love you,” she grated out. “Just wanted you to remember that.”
“Love you, too, babe.”
After Camand Crossman made their way outside to the waiting car, Stalemate regarded Specs and his brother lying on the floor. Both men were bound with zip ties and gags and sported bloody, bruised faces. “Do we call Denny or clean this up ourselves?”
Wolf faced the younger man, and a silent message passed between them. The Iron City Knights’ president had ice-cold murder in his eyes. He could kill the two men and not be bothered at all. He raised an eyebrow as if asking a question.
The large man shrugged and clicked his teeth. “I can get rid of the bodies with no traces left to find.”
Wolf nodded. “I promised Cam his time. He’s gotta take care of his woman now. And we’re gonna take care of him.”
CHAPTER
TWENTY-NINE
“We got a tip call.Don’t know who,” Ratchet told Denny.
Cam heard them talking outside the emergency room doors. He stood just beyond the curtains as several nurses worked on Sabrina. He didn’t want her out of his sight, but he would have to deal with the police at some point.
The officer showed up at the hospital after Wolf called him to say they’d found Sabrina. Someone informed him that she’d been beaten and strangled, but there were no signs of her attackers.
“They must have heard we were coming and bolted,” Ratchet continued with a shrug. “Who knows what morons like that are thinking?”
“Yeah, who knows if they’re gonna be bothering folks again?” Cam had no trouble hearing the skepticism in Denny’s voice.
Ratchet sighed with practiced overexaggeration. “I hope not.”
Cam came out of the emergency bay area. “What do you want, Officer?”
His bitter tone asked more than the words. The underlying question was“Are you here as a policeman or as a friend?”
Denny straightened his spine. “I need to talk to Sabrina when she’s stable.”
“Kinda hard for her to do that since that animal nearly choked her to death. They’re stitching her up now. Some of those cuts went deep.”
“You sure it was Specs?”
“Yes.”
The one-word answer preceded a stare-off between the officer and the Knight. Neither of them moved an inch.
