Sabrina’s instincts picked up on his crazy tone. Shit just got weirder and weirder.

Specs wiped his eyes, leaving behind two streaks of red across his face. It was blood.Herblood. “The Knights fired herfrom the strip club. She loved dancing there so much, and they booted her out like she was trash. Then she was murdered right here in this motel. In this room.”

The waterworks immediately stopped, and his face turned vicious. “You know all about fucked-up family shit. Is it any real surprise we want revenge?”

Sabrina’s skin burned where the blade made contact. Specs peeled back the ruined shirt and slipped the blade between her breasts to slice open her bra. The cups parted, exposing her breasts to the air. There was nothing she could do about it. Specs pinched one nipple and then the other, twisting them painfully and making her cry out.

“You’re a Knight’s woman. You’re gonna die like Candy did. I’m gonna fuck you while I cut you up and then strangle you to death as I come.”

CHAPTER

TWENTY-SEVEN

Cam’sheavy footfalls rang through the waiting room. Fifteen steps one way and fifteen steps back. Cicely and the man were in surgery. It didn’t look good for either of them.

After Wolf gave everyone the news that Sabrina was missing, Cam went a little nuts. Panic circled his brain along with the urge to go find her. But he had no place to start. Specs? He assumed that’s who had her, but no way to confirm. Where? Jazz hacked into CCTV footage around the spa, but the feeds were spotty.

He’d rushed to Sunstone, but Denny ran him off.

“Camshaft, I get that you’re worried, but you’re in my way. Go to the hospital and wait there. I promise I’ll call you directly when we know more.”

An officer took pictures of a big pile of papers on the floor. Denny picked them up and read through a few before thrusting them at Cam. “Know anything about this?”

A few quick sentences told Cam this had to do with Ernie’s estate. He saw the wordsdistributionandrelinquishbefore handing them back. “No, but it looks like part of her dad’s estate paperwork. Right now I don’t give a shit. We need to find Sabrina.”

Fifteen steps. Turn. Check phone for texts.

Nothing.

It was driving him crazy. He wanted to run the streets to look for her, shouting her name and tearing apart the city brick by brick until he found her. Wolf ordered him to stand down.

“You still got a bum arm, brother. I get that it’s killin’ you, but you need to let us do this part. We’ll find her. I’ll get Jazz on this pronto. Until we get a hit, you need to stay put and stay cold. Screaming at the moon won’t do jack shit for your woman.”

The man with bullets in his gut was probably Rodrigo. So far, no one had identified the guy to him, but based on what Sabrina told him and the paperwork Denny showed him, he figured it was a good guess. He must have gotten tired of waiting and come up here to force Sabrina to deal with the probate mess. Bad timing on his part.

Fifteen steps. Turn.

If what he’d caught with his quick glance at the paperwork was correct, Sabrina might have some money coming to her after all. Not a never-work-again fortune, but a nice-sized chunk that would help her get on her feet and give her some breathing room. He’d bet his left nut that Rodrigo wanted her to sign away her rights to that inheritance.

What a dick.

A dick who could be dying right now.

Fuck.

Fifteen steps. Check phone for texts.

A thought hit him hard.

Scrap. Did anyone think to contact him?

Cam didn’t have Scrap’s number, but he had Baghouse’s. He paused in his pacing and scrolled to that name. “Yo, Baghouse, did anyone talk to Scrap yet?”

“I’m with him now. He’s not doing too good.”

In the background, Cam heard Scrap’s gravelly bellow. “Who the hell is that? What about my daughter?”

Baghouse yelled back, “Shut the fuck up, ya jagoff! I can’t hear anything, and you still don’t know if sheisyour kid!”
