She looked at me for a second with somethin’ warm and heavy sittin’ in her eyes before she finally spoke.
“I don’t even know right now.”
I rubbed my hand up her thigh through the silk sheet and let my palm rest there.
“You know if you get pregnant again you gon’ be straight,” I told her.
Pluto stayed quiet for a moment before speakin’ again.
“You purposely try to get me pregnant so I can be fat and undesirable?”
I frowned at her. “Why the fuck would I want you to get fat baby?” I asked. “You better not get fat around this muthafucka.”
That made her laugh a lil’.
“I just love you,” I went on. “And I love when you pregnant. I be feelin’ pregnant too half the time. I just like knowin’ I can give you babies and you can give me babies.”
I shrugged. “We married anyway. It is what it is.”
Pluto leaned up and kissed me again and I kissed her back before whisperin’ against her lips.
“I love you.”
“I love you too,” she said real soft.
After a few more pulls the blunt burned down and I finally put it out before liftin’ Pluto off my lap.
“Come on, baby.”
We walked back in the bedroom together and Pluto let the silk sheet fall from around her body before headin’ toward thebathroom. When she reached the door she turned her head back and caught me lookin’ at her.
“Stop starin’,” she said with a smile.
“Then hurry up and come lay back down,” I told her. “I got more dick for you.”
She laughed and disappeared into the bathroom.
While I waited for her, I grabbed my phone off the dresser and checked the screen. I had a couple private calls that had come through earlier and I was about to lock the phone again when I noticed a new message.
The number wasn’t saved, but the text read:Pressure… it’s Kashmere… can you please call me. It’s really important.
I stared at the screen for a long second, not even sure what the fuck to think right now.

One week later…
Today, me and Toni was ‘bout to find out if we was havin’ a lil’ prince or a princess and I felt like my whole chest been buzzin’ since the moment I woke up this mornin’ ‘cause I swear I could feel this baby tellin’ me it was a girl. I been sayin’ it for weeks and the whole house was tired of hearin’ it, but I ain’t give a fuck ‘cause when you know somethin’ in ya bones, you know it, and I knew my daughter was in there growin’ right under Toni’s hand.
I stood behind her in our room while she faced the mirror, and even with all the money I had, and all the wild shit I done seen, nothin’ touched me the way she looked today and I mean that.
She was wearin’ this soft pink gown that hugged her body in a way that made me wanna pull her right back in bed, and the back was completely out so her chocolate skin was on full display. Her stomach was already showin’ and roundin’ out more each week and I ain’t never wanna stop touchin’ it ‘cause every time I laid my hand across it I felt like I was touchin’ my whole purpose.
Her hair was up in a long high ponytail with them lil’ pink butterflies sittin’ in it. A few strands hung down her back and curled real pretty at the ends, and her makeup was soft and glowy ‘cause the artist came earlier and got her right. I ain’t know much about makeup but I knew my baby looked good enough to stop time.
I had on my own shit, too. A light pink silk button up, open a lil’ at the top so my chains could hit the light the way I like. My pants wasn’t just tailored, they was them slim-cut white trousers that sat perfect on my waist and showed the shape of my legs without bein’ tight, lookin’ clean as hell every time I moved. My kicks matched the whole fit, some custom white and pink designer lows with my initials stitched in the back ‘cause I been waitin’ to wear these since the moment I ordered ‘em. My cologne had been sittin’ in the air since I sprayed it, warm and expensive, and I had pink diamonds in my ears, on my wrists, and across my fingers ‘cause if I was gon’ represent my lil’ girl before she even got here then I was damn sure gon’ show out. I never been scared of color. Real niggas could wear whatever they wanted ‘cause confidence made everything look good.
Toni looked at me through the mirror and her eyes had that soft shimmer in them, the one she get when she feel somethin’ too deep to say right away. I stepped closer and she watched every move like she always did with me, her lips partin’ just a lil’ when I put the necklace around her neck. It was the one I bought her last week, the one with the tiny pink stone hangin’ from it, the one I already pictured her wearin’ before I even paid for it.
