Kay’Lo threw a napkin at him and we all laughed. The air loosened up and the vibe felt good again, even though the world outside this backyard was still some bullshit. I took another long pull from my blunt and let it hit my chest, sinkin’ into that warm place that only weed and whiskey took me.

And like always, when I get too relaxed, my mind slid right to my wife.

Kaylon was comin’ up on one and Prestyn was already runnin’ around this bitch like he paid bills here, but even with two boys tearin’ shit up together, I kept thinkin’ about addin’ more. I wanted a whole tribe of kids with Pluto. I wanted enough to fill every room in this mansion and grow up the same way me, Kay’Lo, and Renza did, movin’ through life side by side, learnin’ shit together, fightin’ for each other, eatin’ at the same tables and knowin’ they always had somebody in their corner. I wanted that for my sons, for the kids we ain’t even had yet, and for the family me and Pluto been buildin’. I wanted it bad.

The more I smoked, the more my chest warmed, and the more I missed Pluto’s smell, her voice, her skin, her laugh, all that. My thumb opened my phone before I even thought about it.

Me:Hurry up and bring yo’ ass home.

I stared at the screen until it lit up again.

Pluto:Pressure… we ain’t even been gone two hours.

I grinned into my glass.

And? I miss you.

Then she sent me three laughin’ emojis.

Boy, leave me alone.

Me:What you doin’?

Pluto:Shopping! Damn!

Me:You buyin’ somethin’ sexy?

She sent four more laughin’ emojis and a

Goodbye.

I laughed to myself and put my phone down, feelin’ good and stupid behind that woman like I always did. My cousins kept talkin’, jumpin’ from jokes to plans to bullshit like we always did when life got too heavy.

Hours rolled by, liquor disappearin’ quick, and the sun slid all the way down until the backyard glowed under nothin’ but the lights. Then my phone buzzed again.

Pluto:On my way home.

I took one last sip of my drink and stood up.

“A’ight. Party over. Get the fuck out my house. My woman comin’ home and I’m not sittin’ out here with y’all no more.”

Kay’Lo laughed. “Nigga.”

Renza leaned back with his blunt. “That boy said he gotta go wash his ass and shave before Pluto get home. Go on, lil’ mama.”

I looked at both of them. “Fuck y’all. Leave.”

Kay’Lo stood up laughin’ and dapped me. Renza walked toward the door with his blunt hangin’ from his lips. “Nigga don’t forget I live here.”

I pointed at him. “Go to ya room or find you somethin’ to do.”

I walked toward the elevator, scrollin’ through my phone, already imaginin’ Pluto walkin’ in the house smellin’ good, and lookin’ pretty as hell.

Right when I hit the button, my phone lit up with a private call. It was the same private call I been gettin’ all week.

I stared at it while it rang, and even though I ain’t answer it, my mind already knew who it felt like.

“Pressure…” Pluto moaned, her thighs tight around my head while I worked my tongue slow across her clit.
