Are you fucking kidding me?
“Don’t be mad.” Specter opens his car door and steps out. “Is something wrong?”
“What the fuck are you doing here?”
A crease appears between his eyebrows as he draws them together. “Would you believe I was lost and just happened to turn into this parking lot to get my bearings?”
I cross my arms over my chest. “No.”
“Yeah, that’s pretty weak.” He drags a hand through his wavy light brown hair. “Thetruth, then?”
“Please.”
“I was at Segreto to see you, but they told me you left early.”
I nod, still completely pissed off.
“That’s unusual for you so I… I wanted to make sure you were okay.”
“Cool story, but I think you missed a big part. How the fuck do you know where I live?”
He has the decency to look sheepish as he shifts his gaze to his heavy boots. “I, um, I’ve followed you before.”
His words freak me out. “What? When?”
Specter half shrugs. “It’s been a while.”
How have I never noticed? This doesn’t make any sense.
“It’s my job, Cashmere, not to be noticed unless I want to be.”
There he goes, reading my mind again. “You’ve been following me?”
“Just to make sure you get home safely.”
“You’re a fucking stalker.”
He nods. “Technically, yes, but not with any bad intentions. You know that.”
“You appointed yourself my unofficial bodyguard and expect me to, what? Thank you?”
“I don’t expect anything.”
“Unbelievable.” I throw my hands up, turning on my heel to march back to my apartment. “You’re something else.”
I can hear his heavy footsteps following me, so I swing around and put my arm out, pressing my hand against his chest.
“Go home, Specter.”
“Why are you out here? You looked worried. I can help.”
“I don’t need your help.” I poke his chest. “How dare you invade my privacy. You’re just like all the men at the club who can’t take no for an answer or respect professional boundaries.”
His face falls, but his expression hardens again very quickly. “I’m nothing like them.”
There’s a threat in his tone that should scare me, but shockingly, my cock swells. “Maybe not, but you sure are acting likethem. You want to protect me by doing the same thing those losers do?”
The look on his face tells me that he didn’t see it that way until this very minute.
