Gorgeous didn’t begin to describe her. Brooke had changed her hair. It framed her beautiful face. And her smile…she knew she looked good. She glowed with happiness and confidence.
Mindy Sue had hooked her arm around Brooke’s shoulders and pulled her along toward the drugstore.
He’d pulled out his new burner phone, tapped into his new social media account, and commented on a picture she’d posted of her and Mindy Sue eating pasta the other night.
@youseeme: You look even better today! The new haircut… Gorgeous!
He’d kept it simple. He didn’t want her to block him. He just needed her to know how he felt.
Chapter Nine
Brooke didn’t post often, but every time she did, @youseeme commented. She wondered who they were. Was it the same person who called all the time, even at odd hours during the night, and hung up before she ever answered? The calls had stopped. Maybe whoever it was finally realized they had the wrong number?
Maybe it was just an annoying telemarketer.
She didn’t think so. Then again, those calls had really amped up her imagination. Especially after she could have sworn she saw someone in her bedroom window the night of the picnic just as the fireworks went off.
She’d checked her room that night, afraid she’d find something creepy. She didn’t notice anything out of place or missing.
Was she hallucinating? Not likely.
So who would be in her room?
Some random guest who got lost trying to find the bathroom, heard the fireworks, and rushed to her window to get a look?
Yeah, she made a lot of excuses for that sighting and the calls.
Now she had some random person leaving her comments. They were nice comments. Not threatening in any way. Except for the subtext. Because the comment that she looked better today than when she had dinner with Mindy Sue implied that they knew her. Saw her before and after her new haircut.
The account only followed her, no one else. Odd. Maybe creepy. For the most part, she didn’t engage except to heart the comment, so they knew she appreciated it, like when she posted a picture with her new haircut all styled to perfection and her new makeup highlighting her green eyes and long lashes months ago.
@youseeme: Love those grasshopper-green eyes. I see the happiness in them. And the satisfaction that you know you look hot!
The comment made her smile. It made her feel good. It made her feel seen.
When she posted a picture of her stack of books for this semester, they commented…
@youseeme: Smart and beautiful! You’re killing me.
That gave her a sense of satisfaction. She wanted to be seen for more than her looks.
“Are you going to take the pic or what?” Mindy Sue asked.
They’d just finished getting dressed up for the Halloween frat party they were going to tonight. Mindy Sue dressed in a sexy devil costume, accentuating her bust and ass with the long forked tail coming from the back of the body-hugging pants and bustier. Brooke rocked a sexy white micro-miniskirt and belly-baring halter top that showed off her boobs to perfection. White wings and a golden halo floating atop a headband completed her sexy angel outfit.
“Brooke?” Mindy Sue bumped her hip to Brooke’s.
“What? Sorry. I got lost thinking about how @youseeme always comments on my stuff.”
“Don’t give him another thought. He’s had weeks to ask you out and he hasn’t. Which means it’s probably not ahebut ashe. Someone you know but aren’t that close to who’s just being nice.”
Brooke blew it off and held up her phone. Mindy Sue put her arm over Brooke’s shoulders, narrowed her eyes, and gave an evil look with pouty red lips, holding up her hand in the universal rock-on sign with her middle and ring fingers down, thumb, forefinger, and pinky up.
Brooke smiled angelically, her eyes soft and bright and twinkling with joy.
She snapped the picture and they both laughed at how they looked the part for their costumes.
Brooke immediately posted the pic, telling herself to just have fun and not think about anything else.
