“What can you tell us so far?” Maren asked, joining in. I saw everyone start to focus on the conversation as Poe made her way to sit next to Sephy.

“What we know so far is that we’re being blocked from some of the major aspects of what’s going on right now,” Lachesis said with a huff. Her long gray hair was tied back at the nape of her neck, but she pulled the ponytail in front and began to play with the ends.

“What I think my sister is trying to say is that we know something major is coming, but we don’t have an idea of when. We see battles happening, but the only people we see in the visions are our people, dressed in battle gear near the Arch,” Poe said.

The room went quiet. “So, we really do need to start making sure our battlements are ready, then?” Daedalus asked, rubbing the spot between his eyebrows.

“I’m afraid it seems that way,” Clotho replied with a crinkle between her brows.

“Have the three of you been in contact with any other oracles?” Loki asked, typing away on his phone. He was likely relaying this information to his contacts at thePax,more than likely Athena and Ma’at.

“We have not,” they said in unison. It was sometimes freaky when they started getting on the same wavelength.

“Maybe it’s time we also bring them in,” This time, it was from Daphne. They ran their fingers through their short, bald-faded blond hair. They didn’t enjoy being the center of attention, so I was a little surprised they even spoke up. Maren put her hand on their thigh, squeezing it in encouragement while Daphne subtly moved away from her touch. That was a little surprising, but I smiled to myself anyway.

Loki stood up, walking across the room to look at a map of St. Louis and the portals to the other realms hanging on Poe’s wall. He was contemplating something hard, but there was no use in trying to get him to talk before he was ready.

“All has been quiet here for a few weeks. That tells me that they’re back to planning or trying to keep us guessing,” I said, fidgeting in my chair, trying to get comfortable.

“I think…” Loki began, scanning the map. He grunted in frustration, running a hand through his dark hair, “We might be able to map out the lesser-used portals in the city. It could potentially lead us to something. I’m not sure what yet, but my instincts are telling me that this map doesn’t have all the portals on it.” We all thought about this for a minute, checking out the same map, trying to make connections we might’ve missed.

All three of the oracles’ eyes went milky. We all sat with bated breath to hear what they were seeing. Daphne was holding on to the armrest for dear life. Maren was rubbing circles on their back. Sephy stood up and started pacing the room, while Daedalus stared off into space as if he wererunning numbers or making something out of the puzzle. He was always good at puzzles and mazes, due to his history.

“Has anyone checked the unused caves?” Daedalus asked.

“Yes. I’ve had guards on them day and night over the last couple of weeks,” Loki responded.

“Do any of these guards have the ability to see through glamour?” Daedalus followed up, still not focusing on anything but the map.

“That’s a good question. I don’t know for sure. I’ll get Lily on that right now.”

I picked up my water from the marble and iron coffee table, careful not to touch the iron lest I get burnt before my date, when the three sisters began speaking in unison again. I almost dropped the glass I was holding.

“When love prevails and all is lost

The driven must now pay the cost

The lovers lost to ruin and fate

A dream desired, that cannot take

‘Til one and one make three again

The world is lost to hate and sin

The worlds collide on a direct path

The portals’ strength will then collapse

So on and on the great war must begin again

To purge the worlds of what has been stolen

A hero must not take the bait

There is still hope within this fate

A mountain will divide the weak
