Vero smirked. “Not so badass now, are you?”

“Get him a bucket,” I said, waving her out of the room.

Cam took deep, shuddering breaths, his head tucked between his legs as I rubbed small circles on his back, the way I did when my children were sick.

“I gotta tell you, Mrs. D,” he said when he’d finally calmed. “That whole sitch in the bathroom traumatized me. I’ll probably need therapy. Who’s the naked guy?”

Given what Cam had already seen, there wasn’t much point in holding back. “The one with the hairpiece is Marco Toscano. He’s a loan shark,” I explained. “Vero took a marker from him in a casino a few months ago. When she didn’t pay him back, Marco hired some muscle to scare her. One of the men he sent after her was the unfortunate victim of gravity you witnessed in the salvage yard. The one in the tie is Louis Delvecchio. He’s one of the men who stole the Aston Martin.”

Cam’s head snapped up. “The Aston’s here?”

“Why do you care?” Vero thrust an empty ice bucket at him. He glared at her as he took it, looking like he’d love nothing more than to hit her over the head with it.

I took the ice bucket before we had one more murder to cover up. “Cam hid a very important flash drive in the car.”

“What’s on it? Your porn?”

“Yeah, pictures of your mom.”

“Knock it off, both of you!” I pointed a finger at each of them and then at the couch. “We all want the same thing—to find that car. So let’s set aside our differences and get to work.”

“Doing what?” Cam asked.

“I don’t know. Play to your strengths. You’re a computer whiz and she’s good with money.”

“Bet the naked guy in the tub didn’t think so when he sent someone to repo her car.”

Vero shot him a look.

I handed Louis’s tablet to Cam. “Start with this. Look for anything that might tell us where they took the Aston. I have to get back to our room before Nick knocks on the door and realizes I snuck out.”

Vero stiffened. “Nick’s here? In Atlantic City?”

I nodded. “Georgia, Sam, and Charlie are here, too. They’re staying in the rooms right across the hall from ours.”

Vero’s jaw dropped. “How are we supposed to rescue Javi with Charlie and the cops watching our every move?”

“I don’t know. But the two of you are going to stay here and figure out where he is while I go back to the Royal Flush and make sure Nick doesn’t suspect us of anything.”

“Who’s Javi?” Cam asked.

“None of your business,” Vero snapped.

I didn’t bother to point out that Cam and Javi had met each other before. It hadn’t gone well, and I didn’t imagine Cam would be eager for a reunion.

“Fine,” Cam said, taking a reluctant seat on the farthest side of the sectional. He kicked off his boot and propped his sweaty sock feet on the coffee table. “But I insist on ordering room service. My brain doesn’t work when I’m hungry.”

Vero raised an eyebrow at his lanky frame, a snarky comeback already forming on her lips. I scooped up the room service menu and thrust it at Vero. “Great. You get to work. Vero will order food.” I dragged Vero aside as Cam swiped open Louis’s tablet. “I promise we’ll find Javi. As soon as Nick leaves for his meeting, I’ll shake Charlie and come back.”

“What am I supposed to do with him?” Vero asked, hooking her thumb at Cam.

I tucked the ice bucket under my arm and turned for the door. “Keep him fed and try not to kill him. He might be our best shot at finding that car.”

CHAPTER 10

I raced down the stairwell of the Villagio after leaving Marco’s suite. I’d been gone from the Royal Flush nearly two hours… way too long. My phone buzzed like an angry bee in the pocket of my apron. I tucked the ice bucket under my arm and slowed to check the caller’s name, hoping it wasn’t Nick. My throat closed as I read the initials on the screen. Vero had programmed the number into my contact list a few weeks ago, masking the user’s identity with a moniker—B.B.,theBoss Bitch.

There was only one reason Ekatarina Rybakov would be calling me.
