I’m almost at the exit when I’m lifted off my feet, taking me by surprise. A small scream slips out, but it’s not audible over the low beat of the music.
I’m slid down a hard body and placed back on my feet. “Well, well, if it isn’t the little dove?”
I spin to face Erik, gasping at his closeness as he backs me against the wall in a dark corner. “Hey,” I murmur, my eyes falling to his lips.
He smirks, like he knows the brief thought that just flicked through my mind, before I quashed it. Jesus, I must be drunk.
“You’re looking,” He pulls back slightly, his hand still resting above my head, as his eyes scan my body. “Hot.”
I swallow the ball of nerves in my throat. “I should…” I frown. What was I doing?
“Call my brother?” he asks. Why does his mouth feel closer?
I gasp as the feel of his fingers traces up my thigh. My lip’s part, and his nose gently brushes my own before I realise he’s taken my phone from my hand. The flashing screen breaks the spell as it rings out, and I blink, watching as he presses it to his ear. “Found your dove,” is all he says before disconnecting.
WARREN
“Fuck,” I yell, slamming my hand against the dashboard. Anthony remains quiet as I try to call Leoni again. “Answer the phone,” I yell to no one in particular.
Anthony’s phone rings, and he puts it on a loudspeaker. “Yes?”
“Café Nine,” the voice on the other end says before disconnecting.
I sigh in relief as he turns the car around, ignoring the blaring horns when he cuts a few cars up. “We need to have someone on her,” he says carefully, his eyes flitting my way before going back to the road. “To prevent this from happening again.”
“I don’t trust anyone else, you know I don’t.”
“I can arrange someone,” he begins. “I have military friends that specialise in private protection.”
I sigh heavily. “I’ll think about it.”
“Have you sorted things with Nancy?”
I shake my head, the words clogging in my throat. “She knows my father has asked me to get closer to Leoni. She won’t blow it for me.”
“But if Leoni finds out about the engagement.”
“I know, Anthony,” I snap, rubbing my forehead. “I know.”
We stop outside the bar, and I get out before he can. And as I march inside, I see her, her cheeks pink, her lips slightly parted, and her eyes staring up into my brother’s.
Erik.
My fists ball in anger, and I shove through the glass doors, causing a few people to glance my way. But not her. She’s too entranced by him.
I place my hand on his shoulder, firm and crushing, as I force a tight smile. “Thanks brother, I’ll take it from here.”
And as I speak, it’s like air is breathed into her lungs. She gasps, her eyes finding mine. “Warren,” she whispers, her brows pinching together.
Erik smirks, stepping back. “Fly little dove, fly,” he mutters, pushing past me as he heads out.
“What are you doing here?” she asks.
“Dinner,” I say, my voice still tight as I grab her wrist and begin pulling her from the bar. “Remember?”
“I have to tell Court,” she mutters.
“I’ll have Anthony tell her.” Anthony is waiting by the car. He throws me the keys, nodding slightly as I march her to the passenger side and open the door. She stands there, staring at me with wide eyes. “Get in.”
