“What is it?” I asked, confused.
“You remind me of Tessa,” she said, pointing at the blond girl on the screen.
“Just as much of a pain in the ass?”
“No, her face! And her body.”
“Oh, yeah, maybe if you put a blindfold on and cover your ears,” James said sarcastically, irritating me.
I flipped him the bird, and he pretended to ignore me.
“Asshole,” I mumbled.
Not even a second later, I saw him stretch his arm on the couch and put it over Sammy. But his long fingers caressed the locks of hair on my shoulders.
“I’ll beat the shit out of you if you don’t cut it out, Hunter.”
“We’re so aggressive.”
Hadn’t it been a rough enough day already? He still wanted to joke around? I turned my head involuntarily because he’d started to graze my neck with his fingertips. His thumb took a long journey, sliding from my earlobe down to my throat.
I started feeling hot, really hot.
I cautiously side-eyed him, and he did the same, moistening his lower lip. The sensation of his eyes locked on mine was violent, a projectile he launched that set sparks off in my chest.
No, June.
I shot him a look to tell him to cut it out, but when I turned around to face Will, who was coming back with water, James pulled a lock of my hair roughly.
“Ow!”
William looked at me, confused.
“Everything okay, June?” asked Sammy, almost concerned, unaware of what was going on in the dark behind her.
“Just peachy.”
Other than the fact that I didn’t know we were still in kindergarten.
James let go, and Sammy adjusted the blanket on both of them and clung to James’s chest.
“It’s still swollen, should I put ice on it?”
I heard Sammy’s shrill voice while she tried to caress James’s wounded hand. He pulled it away.
“No. Leave me alone.”
“Are you going to take me home, or should I call my mom and tell her I’m sleeping over?” she asked.
“You don’t have to sleep over, come here,” James countered. How romantic, I thought before concentrating on the scene again.
I took a sip of the water Will got me, then curled up under his arm while he squeezed me.
Suddenly, I felt movement next to me. I pretended to not notice it to not get distracted again.
Sammy barely moved, her leg grazing against mine. Once, then twice. I turned to glare at both of them, but right then James stuck his tongue out and licked the red lollipop while maintaining eye contact with me.
My jaw dropped when his hand went under the blanket.
