James looked up arrogantly.
“I’m just saying that you seemed to have a different opinion last night.” That was an affront, and he liked those.
Maybe that was what caused his gaze to go perilously low. I felt him burn along my neck, then my chest, until he got to my skirt-clad hips.
I involuntarily squeezed my legs right away.
“Did you really believe me when I was drunk?”
Okay, that was true. He was definitely drunk and high, but he still didn’t seem like he was lying.
“You were convincing, Jamie.” I taunted him with his annoying nickname.
“Was I convincing?”
I admired his dimples.
“Princess, you ain’t seen nothing yet.” He said it absentmindedly, like he was used to seducing anyone without any effort.
Don’t give in, June.
I repeated it to myself a few times because James was staring at me in that way, like he wanted to use the power of his eyes to set my senses on fire.Don’t get thrown off just because he’s a little hotter than the rest. But his sideways gaze combined with his mischievous grin made me lose the plot of the conversation, and all my good intentions went up in smoke.
“What are you going to tell Will?” I asked him.
“That you want me, or at least there’s something you and I did that I still have to talk about with Will.” I would’ve wanted not to understand, but unfortunately I understood exactly what James was referring to. The photos we exchanged that night. And unfortunately, it hadn’t just been one.
James kept his eyes glued to the glass, and I shivered at the thought.
“Are you talking about . . . ?” He nodded.
“Exactly, Snow White. I’m talking exactly about that,” he whispered, getting so close to my ear that I felt the tip of his tongue graze against it.
I held my breath.
My mom was two feet away from us. Is that why he was doing this? Is this what turned him on?
“James, I don’t want you and William to fight.” I gulped loudly. The time to make digs at each other seemed to end early, because his face suddenly became serious too.
“I’ll have to tell him sooner or later.”
“Okay, I’ll just ask you one thing, James. Not today.” I pleaded with my eyes, pointing at the people around us.
“Okay.”
I frowned because I hadn’t expected compliance, but James already seemed to be taking the next step. With all the arrogance in the world, he took out a baggie of weed from his pocket. I turned white as a sheet.
“Put that away! What if my mom sees?”
Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.
“What’s going on here?” I heard her ask as James slipped the bag in his pocket.
“Nothing,” I muttered, before running away so she wouldn’t see my purple face. I walked out of the living room and headed to the hallway where I noticed Jasper who, a little disoriented, was walking up the stairs.
“Jasper, wait, where are you going?” I followed him.
He reached door of my bedroom and stopped like he was waiting for me to let him go in. If Jasper had been taught some manners, his brother seemed to have been raised by wolves.
