I stared daggers at him when he gazed at me.You’re a moron. You don’t even notice how everyone around you is feeling!
But I kept that to myself, otherwise all hell would’ve broken loose. Their group’s balance was a lot more fragile than it seemed. All it took was one misstep or one wrong word, and everything would teeter dangerously.
Finally, we got to Tropical. The surrounding area seemed brighter and more colorful than usual thanks to the big temporary amusement park that had been built.
Before I could even go into the crowd, I heard a familiar voice.
“Jamie.” Taylor.
The blond raised an eyebrow, intrigued by my presence. The duo exchanged a quick kiss, but she seemed particularly interested in me. We got in line to go inside, and while the guys smoked, Taylor came up to us.
“Tell me, you came here from nowhere—how did you end up with the most popular guys in school?”
A pink sweater emphasized her tiny waist, and her long legs were wrapped in a pair of dark leggings. She really was beautiful.
“They call me a compulsive social climber. Now that I’m with them, I’ll start feeling like the queen of this shit. Oh, no, hold on, that’s you, Taylor.”
For a moment, her haughty mask slipped and she looked at me, terrified, but when James flashed her a grin, she composed herself immediately.
“You’ll never be like me. You’re with Will, not with James.”
She pushed a lock of hair behind her ear with innate elegance.
“Wow, I’m really missing out,” I retorted.
I didn’t want to talk with someone like her.
“You’ve made eyes at him, too, there’s no point in being a snob, White.”
“Yeah, yeah.” I groaned, looking at my phone.
“And besides, I don’t think you’re used to these standards. Maybe you don’t even have standards, since this is the first time in your life that you’re dating someone.”
Again with this? Why did they care about what I had or hadn’t done? James seemed to notice my irritated expression, so he walked up.
“What the fuck are you saying to her?” he asked Taylor, who looked at him like he walked on water.
“That you’re the best-looking guy she’ll ever lay eyes on,” she whispered in his ear.
“Wow, I’m so jealous. I hope I’m as perfect as you two in my next life. You guys are definitely a power couple,” I muttered, looking away.
James suddenly lost interest in Taylor and came closer to me.
“Careful, you’re talking too much,” he hissed.
I stiffened immediately.
“Threaten someone else,” I snapped, trying to control myself.
James licked his lips and glued his eyes to mine, but when Taylor approached him to give him a kiss, he was forced to divert his gaze.
I’d seen him make out with different girls on multiple occasions, but never this up close.
His delicious scent mixed with the smoke from the vape pen upset my nervous system.
He brought a hand to his hip and barely lifted his shirt while he pulled her long blond hair, kissing her even more intensely.
I would’ve preferred being anywhere but here right now. Meanwhile, Will and Jackson were talking about a football game that seemed to be important to them.
