“That’s more like it.” I smirked. “You look so pretty baby.”

“You’re annoying.” She smiled lazily then began doing some shit on her phone. “Damn, what are all of these… Makhai!” she exclaimed, and I grinned. “I told you not to!” she whined. “I have so many notifications.”

“I know, but I decided that I don’t be listening to shit nobody be tellin’ me to fuckin’ do, and I didn’t like all of them niggas in your comments.”

“Oh my God.” She groaned. “Andyou posted me on your story?! Ugh,” she scoffed. “This is not a compliment by the way stupid!”

“Yeah, it is.” I chuckled. “You are for sure the finest woman I’ve ever tasted.”

“And you had to tell the world?”

“Couldn’t help it, baby.”

“I can’t stand you,” she shook her head. “Now everyone and their mothers will be in my face and business. Ugh.”

“All you need to worry about is me bein’ in yo’ face and you sittin’ on mine.”

“Your mouth is so horrible. But I may be able to do something about sitting on your face the next time I see you.” She grinned.

“Shiddd, you can see me in a couple of hours if you really on that.”

“No,” she giggled. “The baby’s here.”

“Baby Lord cock blockin’ already and she don’t even know it.”

“We’re going to see each other soon, so…”

“Facts. Like in the next couple days soon.”

“That’s fine because I miss you.”

“Miss yo’ ass too.” I admitted.

We talked for another hour because the baby woke up to eat and get changed. Once she got her back to sleep, the two of us followed suit. I made sure her ass stayed on the phone too because I wanted her face to be the first one I saw when I woke up the next day.

SIXTEEN

“Okay, food then home.” I said to myself after I was back inside my car.

Keona and I had had a busy morning. The social worker had come by this morning to make sure things were still good with her, then she had a doctor’s appointment. They were so impressed to see that she was growing and developing well. She was good and healthy, despite having drugs in her system only a couple of months ago. Her weight was on track, and she was a very happy baby.

The social worker had let me know they were still unable to locate my sister, and she asked if I’d heard from her. Unfortunately, I lied and told them I hadn’t. Even though she was a piece of shit and I was sure that I was done with her, I didn’t know if she’d go to jail or something, and if that was the case, I didn’t want to contribute to it.

Even if that was what she deserved.

I hadn’t heard from her since the day I’d gone over there. It was sickening to know that she’d created someone so precious and she wanted nothing to do with her. I tried not to think aboutit though because regardless of if she was there for Keona or not, I was going to always make sure she was good.

I stopped and got me a chicken dinner from Crispy’s, the chicken shack not too far from my house. I’d been on the move all day, I wouldn’t be doing any cooking. Keona and I also wouldn’t be leaving the house anymore once we were in. I’d already let my job know that I needed the whole day off.

It was a struggle getting all of our things and the baby up to my place. I was out of breath by the time I got my key from my purse. As I was unlocking my door, I felt a presence behind me. I damn near jumped out of my skin when I turned around and found Tristan’s ass standing there.

“Tristan, what the fuck?!” I snapped.

“Y-you have a baby?” his eyes were locked on my niece’s stroller. I was so glad that I had her covered up because he didn’t deserve to see her.

I pushed her inside once I got my door open and pulled it closed slightly, but not all the way, so I could hear her if she woke up.
