The smile that blooms across my face is all the answer he needs. With the snap of his fingers, his black shirt disappears, exposing more of his inked skin. Drayven’s hands grip my hips, pulling me toward him until my legs drape over his shoulders. The tattoos transform into ropes that sprout from his skin and wrap around my thighs, forcing me to open up for him.

“Look at you…naked, dripping with sweat and blood, glowing with power, and all spread out for me.” Death’s tongue swipes sinfully through me, his blazing eyes never leaving mine as he feasts.

Closer and closer he beckons me to the edge all while the sky screams at me, louder and louder until I can no longer ignore it. Pleasure swells within me as the single orb above separates, forming two illuminating red suns over the Eternal Meadows. As my power explodes, my muscles tighten around his tongue, euphoric release finally within reach.

I’m mere seconds away when the bastard stops.

I groan loudly as the god sits back on his heels. But the sight of me glistening across his chin and dripping down the front of his throat only intensifies my need for him.

“Are you finished?" I scoff, displeasure thick in my voice.

“Finshed?” He laughs rakishly. “I haven’t even started.”

He lunges for me again but I stop him. “Enough! Fuck me, Drayven.”

“You seem very comfortable ordering me around.”

“I am not ordering.” I swallow back the resistance that rises in my throat. “I’m asking. I’m…begging.”

Drayven stands in a flash, pulling me from the throne. “A god doesn’t beg, Light. And a god-queen sure as fuck doesn’t ask.”

He snaps his fingers and his shadows transport us again. The red glow of the Eternal Meadows gives way to the dark interior of the King of the Under Realm’s bedroom. Every corner of the room drips with sensual luxury—from the dark mahogany furniture to the satin sheets and the green velvet settee.

Drayven grips my chin and forces my golden eyes to his. There’s a desperation written across them that I know mirrors my own.

“Do you understand what I have given you and what I ask of you in return?”

“I do.”

The vow leaves my lips without a thought. For better or worse, I trade my eternal solitude for the protection of Death himself. Protection I do not need, but want with every fiber of my being. Because now that I’ve tasted the abyss, I never wish to surface again.

“In all my eons of life, I have never once knelt before a god. Ihave never allowed another into my realm and I damn sure have never given them a throne. I worship you alone, Selene. I need to know that you know that.”

“I do.”

“Good.” His thumb pulls down the center of my lip as his eyes rove hungrily over my naked body. “I need you to remember that, because it’s going to look like I don’t.”

Drayven’s lip crash into mine. We are a tangle of tongues and teeth, each of us drinking in the other as if we’ve been deprived for lifetimes.

And maybe we have.

Our powers are the antithesis of each other, but the longer I spend in his realm, the more I know they are truly the divine balance. And instead of resting on opposite sides of the scales, perhaps we belong in the middle, together.

My hands work the laces of his leather pants with deft urgency. Need coils low in my belly as I free him from his fabric cage, a moan rumbling in his chest as I stroke him.

“Get on your knees,” he commands. “I bowed at your altar, now it’s time for you to kneel at mine.”

Without protest, I drop to the ground, pulling his pants down as I go. My eyes flare with delight as I take in just how impressive the Dark God is. All these years of wondering are nothing compared to seeing him like this.

Drayven wraps my blonde hair around his fist and thrusts into my mouth impatiently. I look up at him from under my lashes as I swallow him down.

The mortal statues have it wrong. The Dark God of Death is honed from marble, but to cloak his magnificent body is a sin that should be punishable by eternal damnation. If they could truly see him—the deep lines and carved muscles of his abdomen and chest, the scrawling, shifting ink that dances across his ethereal skin, the verdant eyes that glow with desire—they would freelyhand over their souls for the simple chance to look upon him forever.

Drayven moves harder and faster until water leaks from my eyes and streams down my cheeks. Death is not a gentle lover, but he coos words of praise all the same as he swipes away my tears.

“You take me so well.” His shadows wrap around me, stroking my clit in reward as he thrusts impossibly deeper. “Your mouth was made for me.”

My throat tenses around him as my own release builds again. Drayven’s grip tightens in my hair and he pulls my head back roughly. He yanks me to my feet, using his immortal strength to toss me across the room and onto the large bed.
