It looked like he spluttered, but I couldn’t hear him over the loud music. It still made me chuckle, though.Ha, what a dork.

I focused on Ker, dancing and marveling at how beautiful and graceful my fae friend was. All fae had a grace that no one else could ever copy. It was like they were all part ballerina mixed with magic and wings or something.

I glanced at Roman again. His eyes were still on me, and he had a scowl on his face as he spoke to Jed.

Leaning into Ker, I asked, “What do you think they’re talking about so seriously over there?”

He glanced over, huffed, and shook his head. “Who knows. They’re ridiculous. This is supposed to be fun. No shop talk while we’re out!”

I laughed and continued dancing, deciding that if I couldn’t get Roman out here on the dance floor with me, I could at least put on a show.

Just for him.

Chapter Seventeen

Roman

Mother of Scales, Oakley was beautiful.

They were always gorgeous, no matter what. But right now, they were covered in a fine sheen of sweat that made them glisten under the flashing lights. And the way they were moving their body…

Sure, there was a beautiful fae boy dancing beside them, and sure, Ker was a great dancer, but not even he could compare to how absolutely stunning Oakley was right now. They were wearing a vest that had come open so they were practically shirtless, showing off their pierced belly button and lithe muscles, and all I could do was wish I could bury my face right there and breathe them in. Rub their scent all over me. Cover them in my scent so no one else would ever touch them.

“Soooooo…” Jed’s voice broke into my thoughts, and I glanced at him for only a split second before going back to my Oakley TV.

“Hm?”

“When are you finally gonna ask that gorgeous dragon out, huh?”

I turned sharply to him. “Excuse me?”

He rolled his eyes. “Oh, come on, Roman. Anyone with eyes can see you pining over Oakley over here. I’ve seen you check out their ass, I’ve seen you keeping your eyes on them at all times when they’re in the same room as you, and I’ve seen you walking around with heart eyes whenever they give you even the slightest hint of attention. And now you’re over here, staring at them, looking like you want to eat them up.”

My mouth hung open, so I snapped it shut and grunted at him, turning back to Oakley. I’d obviously been caught staring, so it wasn’t like it’d matter if I continued to stare. So…

“That’s all I’m gonna get? Just a grunt?”

I didn’t respond.

“Oak’s your viramore, aren’t they?”

That got my attention, and I stared at him with wide eyes.

He stared back for a moment before a slow smile formed on his face. “Holy shit, I’m right. They’re your viramore.” He grabbed my shoulder, giving it a little shake. “Gods above and below, this is amazing. I’m so happy for you, my friend.”

“I… I… Jed, I…”

His smile softened. “You haven’t talked to them about it yet, have you?”

I shook my head.

“Don’t worry, I won’t say anything. Promise.”

I sucked in a breath and gave him a nod. I’d known Jedediah for a long time, although we were never close. At least not until recently. So I knew Jed was a good man and that he kept his word.

“Thank you, Jed.”

“No problem.” He gave my shoulder another shake. “I’m so happy for you.”
