That made me chuckle, and a little bit of my tension was released.
Me: I popped a boner at a very, very wrong moment, and I know everyone could, you know, smell it. I’m never leaving this room again. You’ll have to come collect my body after I die of starvation.
Keryth: I’m sure no one noticed.
Me: Dude, I was in a room with a dragon and three vampires. There’s no way they didn’t notice.
Keryth: Well, lucky for you, they’re all too polite to mention it.
Me: Have you met Jed?
Keryth: I live with him.
Me: Touche.
I snorted, shaking my head.
Me: They really won’t say anything, right?
Keryth: I don’t think they will, especially if you ran away, which I assume you did since you’re texting me.
Me: I did. I ran like a bat outta hell.
Keryth: You have nothing to worry about then.
Me: Thank Scales.
Keryth: I can always send a group text to them and tell them not to say anything.
My eyes widened in horror at the thought of that text. And a group text of all things.
Me: Don’t you dare!
Me: That’ll make it soooooooooo much worse!
Me: Seriously, I beg of you. Don’t do it.
Keryth: Just so you know, I’m laughing at you right now.
Me: I’m so glad you find my pain amusing.
Keryth: Shut it, you.
I snorted and set my phone down on the bed beside me, taking a deep breath. Keryth always knew how to make me feel better when I was wigging out. Thank goodness he never seemed to mind me oversharing like I did just now.
A knock on the door made me jump.
“Oak?” Roman’s voice was deep and made me shiver even as I cringed and prayed he hadn’t been paying attention before.
“Yeah?” My voice broke, and I cleared my throat.
“Breakfast’s ready.”
“Okay, thanks. Be out in a minute.” I spoke a little louder than I usually would, but his hearing was good enough to hear me easily.
There was a long pause, and then, “Oak?”
“Yeah?”
