“Sure thing,” I said around another smile, enjoying the weight of her body against mine, the scent of her shampoo and the trust she’d always given me.
Halloran hadn’t caught up with her. Not yet.
But if he did, he would learn—the hard way—that Macy wasn’t on her own anymore.
Chapter Ten
Macy
Iwoke up draped across Drew’s body like he was my own personal body pillow. I wasn’t tucked politely at his side like I had been when I’d fallen asleep and I wasn’t curled with my back against his, the way we used to as kids. Oh no, I was sprawled on top of him, covering half of his body with my own. One leg was brazenly tossed over his strong thigh while my cheek got up close and personal with his chest. The best part? The protective sensation of his forearm draped across my back.
For a second, I didn’t move.
I listened instead.
His breathing came in slow and steady beneath my ear. His heartbeat was strong and familiar. The room smelled like him, body wash, leather, and something masculine and clean. It grounded me in a way that made my shoulders loosen before I even realized they were tight.
I shifted ever so slightly, testing… everything.
Drew stirred.Allof him stirred.
Everything.
I froze as awareness snapped through me, so strong it stole my next breath. He was hard beneath me. Long and thick, unmistakably so. My breath caught as heat bloomed low in my belly before I could stop it. before I could remind my body—and my mind—that this wasn’t the time or the place. Or the man.
Instead, I moved again. Just a little.
And then again.
His other hand went to my hip, fingers gripping me firm but not enough to be forceful and he sure as shit wasn’t stopping me, which I expected. His voice was rough with sleep and something darker, more sensual. “Keep that up,” he murmured, “and you’re gonna end up with a mess all over your shirt.”
I thought about his words and held myself still to stop the shiver that raced through me. Summoning all the courage I could find, I lifted my head, heart pounding as I spoke. “What if Iwantthe mess?”
The words were out before I could second-guess them.
They were reckless and bold, two things I was not. All of this was exciting in a way that made my pulse race.
I watched as his eyes opened slowly, one and then the other. Those gray eyes were sharp like he’d been up for hours and focused on me with the kind of intensity that usually terrified me. He pushed up on his elbows, which brought our faces closer. “What are you saying?” he asked, the words quiet and intense.
I swallowed, suddenly aware of howfuckingexposed I felt. Not physically, though that too, but here in this moment. I wasn’t a prude, but I wasn’t exactly an open book either when it came to sexual things. I wasn’t exactly the bold, go-getter,take what you wantkind of girl either. “I’m saying,” I began and then paused, ignoring my shaking breaths to focus on what I actually wanted in this moment. “I don’t want him to be the last memory of sex for me.”
Drew didn’t move and he didn’t interrupt. He let me have this moment.
“I need something that’s mine.” I sucked in a sharp breath. “Something that I’m choosing, and that’s you. I need you to help me rewrite this memory. If you want,” I added and then shook my head. “I mean, if this is something you also want.” Oh shit, what if he didn’t want this? I tried to sit up in anticipation of this being a major miscalculation. Maybe he meant he’d make a mess because guys are easy and can come at the drop of a hat.
Drew said nothing, only studied my face. Searching every line and every feature, reading my innermost thoughts. When he finally found his words, his voice dropped deeper but his words remained steady and slow. “I’m not doing this to fix you, Mace.” His thumb brushed along my hip, slow and deliberate, a little bit intoxicating.
My heart sank at his words even as lust tugged at the corners of my body. “No?”
He shook his head. “I’m doing this because I want you. Because I wantyou.”
“Oh,” I said, the word leaving my mouth on a heavy rush of breath.
He tilted his head, a small smile on his lips. “Are you sure this is what you want?”
“No,” I admitted. “I’m not at all sure thatthisis what I want, but I’m sure that I want you. Now.” I moved my hips again just to prove my point. He was long and hard, sending a rush of heat through my body. I wanted this even more than I admitted to myself and that scared me to the point I tried to roll awaybut Drew caught me, tugging me back to his big body until I straddled his hips and our faces were just inches apart.
“You want me,” he said plainly, not at all a question.
