“I’m a planner.” He winked.

She washed her hands and pulled the salad bowl from the cabinet. “I got your lovely gifts. Thank you. How did you manage that?” She blushed.

“The e-reader was planned. There is a wonderful shop in Leesburg that was able to get me the journal and picture on short notice. Ellie, I really like you being here. I know I promised slow, but I’d really like to see you. God, I sound like a creepy stalker.”

“Yes.”

“Yes?”

“Yes. Wes, we’re both adults, and technically, Pete Walter is my boss. I’m inexperienced, but I like how I feel with you. Stop worrying. Now cook, Chef. There’s a hungry crowd in the other room.” Her eyes smiled.

“I told you the other night, I like to cook.” He took a drag on his beer.

“My guilty pleasure is the Food Network.” Eleanor focused on making the salad.

“What’s your favorite? I loveChopped. Makes me think of funky combinations of food.” Wes flipped the burgers and grabbed some brioche rolls from a bread keeper.

“I likeRestaurant Impossible. Robert Irvine is part therapist and part cook.” She grabbed the olive oil and red wine vinegar.

Wes smiled as she made a dressing. He loved seeing her cook in his kitchen.
