“She knew anyone in the way of them getting what she knows and what she has is at risk. The day she was shot, Shaw told her they’d kill Wes and two innocents. And they almost did. We went through the house the day Wes shot Belinda and her family hurt Wes. It all occurred in Eleanor’s room. Eleanor’s drawers were rifled through, and we found the corporation paperwork on the floor. The wildcard is, do her brothers know?” Kip asked.

“Wes, come down and talk to us,” Malachi said, knocking on Lindy’s bedroom door.
Eleanor’s eyes filled with fear. Wes kissed the top of her head. “Breathe.” He unbuttoned his shirt and unzipped his fly. “Coming, sir.” Wes opened the door, zipping his fly and then he started to button his shirt.
Malachi laughed. “Ah, to be young again.” He slapped Wes on the shoulder.
“No disrespect, sir. Lindy deserved some extra attention.” Wes smiled. “You knocked. What can I do for you?”
“I guess what you said is true. I called that Training Center, and when I asked for you, they put this Christian guy on the phone. He said you were no longer employed there. He wouldn’t say why, but he did say the change was permanent. Sounds like you’re a man of his word.”
“What can I say, but after my head injury, a man can only go so far abiding by rules that make no sense. I had to make a necessary decision.” Wes’s muscles tightened in preparation for Malachi Drake’s response. What came was a firm handshake, which Wes mirrored.
