He snorted. “Did you really think I’d forgotten your previous warnings?”

“It pays to be proactive,” she said with a sniff.

“Mmm-hmm.” He brushed over the sensitive spot with his nose, but that was it. And then his whole body stilled.

One second. Two.

Finally, he looked up at her—and her breath caught at the expression on his face. Amazement and happiness and so much love.

“What,” she asked, holding her breath.

“You’re pregnant.”

Her jaw dropped open. “What?”

“I can smell the life inside of you.”

“Oh my god. A baby. Our baby!”

“Our baby.” He rose back up and kissed her, a totally different kiss then before. Soft and gentle and sweet.

Which was awesome. For a minute. But her body was still pulsing with need for him. She grabbed his head between her hands and sucked his tongue in, hard. He got the hint. Which was good because she was no longer interested in waiting. She wrapped her legs around his hips and dug her feet into his butt.

“Inside me. Get inside me,” she demanded.

He reached a hand between them, guided himself to her core, and pushed hard and fast and deep and perfect. She brought her hips up to meet him as he withdrew and thrust again, matching his rhythm, feeling their connection, body, heart and soul.

“Mine,” he said. “All mine.”

“So very mine,” she agreed. It came out in three gasps as he worked her, wound her up and up until she could do nothing but soar. She cried out, a long, thin wail that almost masked the sound of his release.

He dropped down to her side, draped one leg and one arm over her, and rested his head on her shoulder.

“Damn,” she said when she could speak again.

“You have such a way with words.”

“It’s a gift.”

He looked up at her. “Should I be schmaltzy now and tell you that you’re a gift?”

“If you feel like it. But as long as you keep doing what you just did for many, many years to come, I already know you think it.”

“Doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be said,” he pointed out.

“True enough.”

He kissed her. “You’re the best gift I’ve ever had, better than I ever imagined you would be.”

“I love you. I can barely remember what it’s like not to have you in my life. I’m so thankful for you.”

“Well, I am pretty awesome. At least that’s what my parents tell me.”

“Agreed.”

He put his head back down on her shoulder.

“A baby,” he whispered.
