Melt. Melty melty melt.

“And what made Digham want to get into bed with BUILD for this project?” Dave asked.

The question made her eyes pop. He didn’t mean it literally. No way did Dave literally meanin bed. But she still had to bite her lip to control a wildly inappropriate laugh. And Leo, who hadn’t exactly been relaxed at the start of this process, was now rigid as a tree trunk.

She bit the bullet and answered that one.

“BUILD has experience working with so many of the schools in the area that we were able to get Dig Greener up and running much faster than if they were starting from scratch.”

Mabel’s lips were pursed in amusement. “I’ll admit, I was surprised at first when I heard BUILD was involved, but it makes sense when you think about it. Plus it seems like there’s great chemistry between the foundation and BUILD.”

Okay, thathadto be intentional. Although she and Mabel were friends, she definitely hadn’t opened up about her history with Leo. But maybe Thea had?

While she was shooting Mabel awhat the hellglare, Leo surprised her by stepping in to answer.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with BUILD,” he said evenly. “We’ve been able to build on a strong foundation, and I hope that relationship will deepen and grow as the years pass.”

Somehow while he’d been speaking, he’d shifted so his whole body was facing her, his hand resting on the back of her chair, his thumb brushing against her back. When she risked a glance at him, he was looking right at her, his expression unreadable. And why would she see anything remarkable on his face? He’d answered a simple question with a simple answer, and she was the weirdo looking for deeper meanings.

“There you have it,” Dave said to conclude their segment. “Two Thursdays from now, get all the details from the trio out to save their little corner of the world. Next up, new music by the Sleepwalkers, so don’t go anywhere.”

Once the mics were off, Leo was up and out the door. William just shook his head and watched him go. “It was like that after the CBS interview too. He’ll talk about the work, but he sprints into his cave afterward. I’ll take him for an early lunch or something.”

William followed Leo out the door, leaving Faith to look between Mabel and Dave.

“You two,” she said suspiciously. “Was that intentional?”

“What?” Mabel was all innocence.

“Oh, the part where we messed with you a little because you were practically sitting on your ex-boyfriend’s lap?” Dave asked.

Faith’s mouth dropped open. “First of all, how dare?”

“How dare?” Mabel pressed a hand to her heart in mock outrage.

“How. Dare.”

The deejay grinned and flicked her fingers. “You’re a pro. I knew nothing would rattle you.”

Wrong. Leo rattled her all the time with his dark looks and tiny moments of sweetness.

“You two are so lucky that I’m cool under pressure,” she said. “And how did you evenknowabout us?”

“Please,” Mabel scoffed. “I was in the same room as the two of you just now. It wouldn’t have been hard to guess even if Thea hadn’t mentioned something.”

Faith gestured to Leo’s empty chair. “He was nervous! I was calming him down.”

“By massaging his leg?” Mabel asked.

“Whatever,” she grumbled. “Thanks for the publicity anyway.”

“Anytime!” Mabel chirped. “Join us for yoga next weekend?”

Yoga actually meant donuts, and Faith promised to check her schedule, then said goodbye and headed for the exit. She was rummaging through her purse in search of her keys as she crossed the station parking lot when a sports car came tearing down the aisle. She lurched out of the way, heart pounding at the near miss, and when the black Porsche rocketed to a stop in a nearby spot, she charged at it.

“What the hell?” she shouted as the driver swung the door open.

A tall man stepped out. Expensive suit, expensive haircut, expensive shades. Brandon Lowell, rich asshole radio station owner.
