HAWK AND THE PHROZEN PHALLUS
A CHERRY PICKED BONUS SCENE
CHAPTER ONE
HAWK

“This hike has been awesome,”I said, stretching out my hamstrings and looking around at the springtime scenery at the top of Balderdash Peak. “Fresh air and sunshine always clear out the cobwebs.”
“Mmmhmm. And don’t forget sharing your thoughts onDangerous When Wet: A Pride and Prejudice Variation. That was my personal favorite part,” Jack said, setting his backpack on the ground and kneeling to take out our cooler bag. “Very inspiring.”
I grinned. “I’m so glad you agreed to my campout idea, even though we have to rush back to get to Hannabury for Porter’s graduation tomorr—uh.Jack? What the hell kind of sausage is that?” I asked, eyes bugging at the size of the cylindrical package Jack pulled out of the bag. “I thought we were grilling burgers.”
“Oh, we are.Later.First, though,” he added with amaniacal grin on his gorgeous face as he straightened back up. “I’m a little concerned about you, Bird.”
“Me?” I frowned. “You’rethe one who’s been working so hard hiring seasonal staff at the diner, you haven’t had a free minute in days.”
“True,” he said mock-sadly. “We’ve both been so busy that we’ve hardly spent any quality time together. You’ve probably been feeling… neglected, baby.”
I raised an eyebrow. “I have?”
One thing I had not felt since the day that Jack Wyatt walked into my life eight years ago wasneglected. And no matter how busy the diner was, or how much Jack and I had on our plates dealing with our families and friends and new roles regarding the resort, we always, alwaysmade time for each other. We’d learned the hard way that we were strongest when we were a team.
“Mmm,” Jack went on. “And you look… warm.”
I swiped a hand over my forehead. The spring daywaswarm, and our hike to the top of Balderdash Peak had been our longest hike since autumn. I was a trifle sweaty, it was true. But the mischievous glint in his eye set my heart pounding in a way that had nothing to do with unseasonable temperatures.
“I’m feeling fine,” I said cautiously.
Jack shook his head solemnly. “Are you, though? Heatstroke, Bird. It sneaks up on a person.”
The sound of my laughter, clear and free, rang through the empty clearing. “You know, I do believe I heard that somewhere once.”
“Fortunately for you,” Jack said, slapping the package against his hand, “I’ll always be here to take care of you.” He bit his lip. “Ideally before this bad boy melts.”
Melts?
“You’re scaring me,” I lied. “What did you bring and why do I feel like keeping my ass as far from you as possible?”
“You remember that story you told me the first night we made love? A little something about a popsicle…”
My eyes widened and my heart picked up a crazy rhythm. “You…no.”
“Oh, yes,” Jack countered, grinning wickedly. “Definitely, definitely yes.”
Look, being engaged to Jack Wyatt was like living in my longest-running fantasy on a daily basis.
Waking up in his arms, falling asleep to the sound of his breath in my ear, feeling his hand on the small of my back when we stood in line at Winter Fest, seeing his smile across the breakfast table, hearing the deep satisfaction in his voice when he called my name across the crowded diner, spending time hiding with him in our ravishing room acting out every hot-as-fuck scene from my latest read… every second of it was high-octane jet fuel for my brain.
Needless to say, in the months that we’d been together, there hadn’t been a single time when I’d thought, “You know what would spice things up?” because I was existing on the high end of the Scoville scale twenty-four-seven… which was why I hadn’t given the freezable dildo a single thought since Jack had given it to me last summer.
My fiancé, on the other hand, had not forgotten.
In fact, it seemed he had beenplotting.
“Strip,” he commanded, unwrapping the prized item from its plastic baggie. “I have big plans for you tonight and the clock’s ticking. Take your clothes off, Bird.”
