"Wha—" Belatedly, Eden remembered that she wore a green face mask. Would the heat filling her cheeks be visible behind the green? This was exactly why she hadn't done a face mask while she was at Scott and Kennedy's.

Rudy composed himself. "Okay, that's just scary."

"Very funny." She scowled at him. "What do you want?"

"You forgot to unlock the bathroom door." His gaze raked over her, taking in her cow-print pajamas, and his eyebrows shot up.

Feeling suddenly exposed by the shortness of her shorts and the thinness of her tank top, she turned defensive again. "I didn't forget to unlock the door." She totally had, but she'd never admit it. "I'm not finished in there."

"Obviously."

Eden sucked in a sharp breath. "How rude!"

Now he scowled. "I'm just stating facts. You obviously need to wash off..." He pointed to her face. "...whatever that is."

Eden lifted her chin and squared her shoulders. "It's avocado and oatmeal. It hydrates my skin."

He snorted. "If you say so."

"I do." She glared at him, daring him to argue with her.

"Whatever." Rudy raised his hands palms out before sighing. "When are you going to be finished in the bathroom?"

She gave him a cheeky grin and said, "When my mask is dry, and I'm done getting ready for bed." Then she closed the door on him.

"Mooody?" Rudy's voice came through the door in a perfect imitation of a cow. "I can think of a more appropriate word."

"Humph!" Eden scowled at the door.

Why did she always get so defensive around him? And would there ever be an end to the awkward situations between them?

CHAPTER5

Eden rolled over and stretched. A beam of sunlight hit her face, and she grimaced before rolling back and opening her eyes. She checked the bedside clock.

Is it really nine already?

She hadn't expected to sleep so well when she climbed into bed last night and felt its firmness. She'd quickly concluded that Alice had bought a new bed for the guest bedroom when she redecorated it. There was no way a big man like Scott slept in this bed for years without leaving a dip in the center.

Although she'd slept great and much longer than she'd expected, she was tempted to roll over and go back to sleep since she had nothing to get out of bed for. But with the way the sun streamed through the curtains, she doubted that would happen.

Once again, she questioned what she was supposed to do with her life. She didn’t regret quitting her job, but she felt aimless. She looked up at the ceiling.

Lord, tell me what you want me to do with my life.

After waiting several long moments for a lightning bolt of inspiration to hit, she climbed out of bed and knocked on the bathroom door. When no answer came, she tried the knob.

Locked, of course.

She went down the hall to Rudy's room only to find his door open. Of course, he was gone to work already. She took a moment to look around his room as she made her way to the bathroom.

Alice was right; he cleaned up after himself. His bed was made and there didn't seem to be a single thing out of place. No shoes or dirty socks on the floor. No shirt laying over the back of his desk chair. Even the little notepad and pen on his desk seemed to be in perfect order.

She studied his computer setup. Why did he need two monitors in addition to his laptop? Was he a gamer? A geek at heart?

Realizing she was being nosy, she hurried into the bathroom where the scent of his body wash hit her. She loved the powerful masculine scent. It fit Rudy perfectly.

Last night, she'd thought that if she familiarized herself with his good looks, she'd be more comfortable with him. Then maybe her fascination with him would subside, but that didn't appear to be the case. Every little thing she learned about him only ramped up her attraction to the man.
