Good.
“It’s nobody’s fault but my own. I climbed that fence. My clumsiness got me into this mess.”
Robert looked relieved as he sat near her.
She pointed a finger at him. “But that doesn’t excuse you from using me to send a message to Debbie.”
Robert flinched. “We were only trying to help.”
“Right. Andyoupurposefully volunteered to bring me home in the afternoons, I bet.”
“Well... my schedule is the most flexible. Ben and Jake have no idea when their work will wrap up every day.”
“Are you sure it doesn’t have anything to do with the fact Debbie is rarely out of bed before ten?”
“I swear.” He raised his right hand, but Amy could tell he bit his lip to keep from smiling.
She groaned. “I’m going to get a bad reputation in this town, thanks to the three of you.” She glared at him. “I swear, if one of you shows up tomorrow to drive me to work, your deputies will have a homicide to investigate.”
He laughed and raised his hands in surrender. “Okay.”
“I mean it, Robert.” She pinned him with her gaze.
“Fine, I’ll call off the chauffeur squad right now.”
He pulled out his phone and typed in a text. As he hit send, Kallie demanded his attention. He set his phone beside him, screen up.
Amy read the text he’d sent before the screen went black.
Cat’s out of the bag. You should have seen the fireworks! Amy’s cute when she gets mad!
She gasped. This was all a big joke to him. She picked up the decorative throw pillow beside her and threw it at him. “I’ll show you fireworks!”
