Da Han nodded and caressed his wife's cheek with his free hand. "Is everyone else all right?"
Jun De nodded. "The SUVs have been taken care of. No one else was injured."
Da Han was pleased that he didn't have to handle every little detail, that he had competent people in his triad who could take care of the business that needed to be done when he was preoccupied. For him, his wife took priority. Now that he knew she was okay, he wanted retribution.
"I want Enrique Esposito's head delivered to me today—no... wait. I want him delivered to me personally. I'll kill that motherfucker myself," Da Han said.
"Yes, sir," Jun De said.
There was a knock on the door, and Da Han allowed the person entry. Chen stepped in, phone in his hand. "We have the location of Enrique Esposito. He's in a hotel downtown Manhattan."
"Go there, kill everyone. Every fucking one there except him. Bring him to me," Da Han said.
"Can you please hold off discussing business until I leave?" the doctor said.
Da Han huffed. "What? Are your sensibilities offended, Doctor?"
He gave Da Han a look that made the man chuckle. He'd been the doctor of the family for over twenty years. He knew what the Jade Dragon Triad was all about. Still, he wasn't interested in listening to the plans of murdering people when he was in the business of saving them.
"Save your complaints, Doctor. Finish up," Da Han said.
The doctor went back to threading the wound as cleanly and neatly as he could.
"There's something else you should know. My sources say that the Esposito family requested a sit-down with the Castiello family," Chen said.
"What do you think? Are they trying to switch teams? Do they think that the Castiellos and the Lords are winning this war?" Mèng Yáo asked her husband.
Da Han frowned as he pondered the situation, then he shook his head. "Even if they wanted to, Rico isn't the type to forgive being slighted. Not without a gun to his head, so to speak. The Esposito family has nothing to offer him, so what's the fucking point of having a sit-down?"
"So, you think it's all pretense and that they plan to attack whoever comes?" Mèng Yáo asked.
Da Han nodded. "They want to kill us both, my triad and the Castiellos. We're their biggest threat, and once we're out of the way, they'll go after the Lords. They showed their hand today by trying to take me out. This sit-down is them trying to take Rico, or whoever shows up to make the deal, out."
"Rico knows this, I'm sure," Chen said.
"Rico 'The Monk' Castiello is no fool. I'm sure he is planning to kill them before they can kill him. What I want is to kill both of them. Go to that location, watch for who shows up, then take everyone out... except Enrique," Da Han said.
"I will get a team ready to go," Chen said, then left.
"I'll leave you two alone," the doctor said. "I'm all done, and make sure you follow these instructions and get this medicine for her."
Da Han took the paper and read its contents. He nodded. "Will do. Thank you."
The doctor, who was up in his years, nodded and was escorted out of the room by Jun De, and the door closed behind them.
Da Han snuggled up next to Mèng Yáo, holding her and kissing her. "I don't know what I would have done if I had l—"
Mèng Yáo covered his mouth with her hand. "Don't say it. It didn't happen. I'm right here."
Da Han nodded, then kissed her again. "We will kill that asshole together."
"What a joy that will be," Mèng Yáo agreed, as she looked forward to the moment when Enrique Esposito crawled before her, begging for his life.
"Soon, baby, soon," Da Han said, then rested his head against hers.
