Soon, we will, Dragon thought.
Before the hour passed, there was a knock on the door, and Enzo's men and the Lords were on guard. Instructions had been given to allow Da Han's people to take Li and Xiù away. Dragon watched Enzo confirm who was at the door; they were let in. The first person to walk in was a handsome and tall Asian man, and he could tell from the man's body language that he was a bodyguard, but even more than that, he was a skilled assassin. Dragon rose from his chair just in case shit was about to kick off.
The next person who crossed the threshold was a handsome blonde man, and Dragon knew right away that it was Montgomery. He'd seen photos of the man while Richie was in prison. The confidence in Montgomery's strut told Dragon a lot about him. He was fearless and in control of his emotions. Several other men followed, all guards, and then the door was shut behind them.
"Follow me," Enzo said.
Dragon walked over to Montgomery, blocking their path. "You're Richie's best friend."
Montgomery's chin lifted slightly as his gaze roamed up and down the length of Dragon's body. He smirked. "And you're his lover."
"I wish we were meeting for the first time under better circumstances," Dragon said, because he didn't want to make an enemy out of Montgomery. Not if he didn't have to, and since he and Richie had never been boyfriends in the past, he didn't feel any need to be jealous either.
"We'll have a chance to get to know each other," Montgomery said in his crisp British accent, which made Dragon think the man sipped his tea with his pinky finger up.
"Let's get this over with," Enzo said, as his patience had run out.
Montgomery nodded at Dragon, then followed Enzo to where Li was still tied up.
"Get him out of my fucking sight," Enzo said, gesturing to the man glaring angrily up at him.
Montgomery motioned for his men to act, and Dragon saw that they obeyed him. It made him curious about Montgomery's position inside the triad. Was he an underboss? He must be because they were following his orders and protecting him. Dragon watched the triad untie Li's hands and help the man to his feet. They assisted him as he walked past Enzo; the two shared a look that held their mutual malice.
"There will be a reckoning," Li warned.
Enzo snorted. "I kicked your ass once."
Li chuckled. "And how many men did it take to do that?"
That was true; Enzo didn't have the skill to take Li down by himself, Dragon remembered.
"A win is a win," Enzo said with a wicked smile.
"I'll remember that," Li retorted, then turned to Montgomery. "Let's get Xiù."
"Of course," Montgomery said.
Dragon noticed that the other members of the triad bowed to Li, but not Montgomery. Was it because Montgomery was married to Li's little brother? Or something else why they were following his orders too? Dragon followed along as they went to the room where Xiù was resting. She was ready and had been waiting to leave. Li walked over to her, hugged his twin, and checked her over, noting her wounds. He growled, then turned, his fiery gaze zeroing in on Dragon.
"You son of a bitch," he snarled.
"Spare me your outrage," Dragon said. "We were at war, and I don't pull my punches. Swallow your pride and be glad that I didn't kill her."
Li laughed, but there was no humor in it. He was pissed, and he knew that if he didn't get the fuck away from them, he'd order his people to kill everyone. "Let's go," he said finally.
"Yes, sir," his men said, and one of them picked Xiù up, carrying her out of the place as she was unable to walk on her own.
Dragon watched as Montgomery walked behind Li, but at his side, and a part of him was happy that they had come to an understanding because he could tell which side Montgomery was on. He was Jade Dragon Triad. At least now, Richie wouldn't have to cut ties with his best friend.
"Here's to our new empire," Dragon said as the door closed.
Enzo threw Dragon a nasty look but didn't say anything to the man. "Let's wrap it up and get the fuck out of here," he said instead.
Dragon smiled because he knew why Enzo had looked at him that way. Their new empire was built on his and Li's relationship as well as Cenzo and Xiù's child. They were the ones makingthe grand sacrifice, but Dragon didn't care. They could work it out because money was the universal unifier. And business was business.
"Let's ride out," Dragon said, and the Lords who were still around said their goodbyes to each other before hopping on their bikes and leaving.
Dragon, Burger, and Nine all rode together, heading back to the clubhouse, and when he got there, he hugged his brothers and family. Then he and Richie went back to their room for some alone time.
