"This is my first time, but I've yet to pick you up."
"That is true. Maybe you should put in more of an effort. Huh, Lucian?"
"For a woman like you, I'd move heaven and earth."
"I like the sound of that. Why don't you prove it?"
"Let's go to my room and you'll have a night you'll never forget."
"I thought you'd never ask."
Chapter 4
Lucian
The woman in the red dress, who hasn't given me her name yet, is igniting things in my body I haven't felt in years. After being so focused on my business, this is opening a whole new door of possibilities for me. Will I ever see her again after this? Who knows? But she is the most beautiful woman I've seen in ages.
I guess I wasn't looking before, but I sure am now. The fabric of the dress follows her voluptuous figure as if it were caressing every part of her body.
"We should go, then."
"Let's talk a bit while I finish my drink."
"Do you want me to order a snack or something?"
"I'm too nervous for that."
"You? Nervous?"
I realize that there are a few things that show her insecurity. How she's holding her drink as if it's a shield of some sort and how she shifts on her seat whenever I say something that is considered too forward.
"You haven't told me your name."
"I'm Kimber, and I'm here alone."
"Is this where I ask you what's a woman like you doing in a place like this?"
"Oh, God, that is such a cheesy line."
The truth is I am wondering why such a gorgeous woman is here at this couples resort all alone. Could she be a workaholic like me?
"I can tell you why I'm all alone in this resort. I was banished from my office by my assistant. She booted me from the office saying I'm a terrible workaholic and that I needed some rest."
"She has that much power over you?"
"She runs my life. I trust her completely."
She suddenly looks sad, and I kick myself for whatever it is that I said that made her look like this.
"I'm sorry…"
"No. It's not you. My reason for being alone here is sad. I found my fiance cheating on me on our wedding day. So I dumped him and went on what was supposed to be our honeymoon by myself. What do you say to that?"
"I think you were lucky. What if you'd gone through with it and then years after found out the truth?"
"I guess you're right. I'm still embarrassed, though. I mean a professional woman like me should be able to keep her man, right?"
"Sometimes it's not meant to be, Kimber."
