Colton Scott Talks Heartbreak After Failed Engagement to Meghan Rhodes
The Hollywood hero opens up about love, loss, and self-doubt, calling the breakup with his former co-star “challenging all around”
BY SIAN GILBERT – MARCH 5, 2024
After ending his engagement to actress Meghan Rhodes in January, Colton Scott opened up for the first time about how he’s coping with their split.
“Breaking up is never easy. It’s hard. Not only on an emotional level—realizing you’ll no longer be with the person who was the center of your world for so long—but also on a self-doubt level. I really thought she was the one. So yeah, it’s just challenging all around, ya know? But I’m finally starting to feel like myself again and am looking forward to everything that the big man upstairs has in store for me.”
When asked what’s helped him overcome the heartbreak, Scott revealed his main source of comfort has been his nephews.
“They’re at that perfect age where they actually think I’m cool,” he laughs. “They came to visit me on set last week and yeah, it was an incredibly ‘proud uncle’ moment for me.”
Scott is currently filming the sequel toMr. America,Mr. America: Retaliation. Luckily for him, Rhodes’ character was killed off in the first installment so they don’t have to worry about working together.
Scott and Rhodes met in 2019 on the set ofA Highland Love. In the romantic dramedy, Rhodes played a librarian who had never experienced love outside of books, while Scott played a Scottish Highlander who thought romance novels were inauthentic and unrealistic.
Despite an undeniable on-set chemistry, nothing was rumored to have happened between the two since Colton was dating pop star Harlow Hayes at the time. Throughout the years, they continued their “friendship” until they eventually fell in love and lived a whirlwind romance in real life, with Colton proposing to Meghan in late 2021 soon after they began filming forMr. America. The pair’s engagement lasted for just over two years.
Meghan is currently filmingI’m Sure She’s Fine, an HBO adaptation of the hit psychological thriller novel by the same name about a paranoid mother who goes missing and a daughter, played by Meghan, who doesn’t care—until, that is, she believes her mother may have had a reason to be paranoid after all.
When asked for a comment, Meghan declined.

Chapter 29
Naomi wastes no time, reaching out to Meghan across all her social media, sending the same direct message to her Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok, even though she knows they’ll most likely never be read. She leaves messages and emails for her PR contact and manager, but knows it could take them days, if not weeks, to get back to her. With all the other reporters trying to get a comment on Colton, coupled with promotions for her new HBO show, Naomi will be lucky if she gets any response at all.
She grunts in frustration, knowing she needs to think of some other way to get Meghan’s attention. She goes back to her Instagram account and scrolls through countless photos of the blonde bombshell. There’s a recent cover for Vogue, sexy lingerie shoots, red-carpet snaps, and artsy vacation photos. She clicks onto one of Meghan floating in an infinity pool somewhere exotic, looking off into the distance.
Saint Lucia, you’ve been incredible. Until next time, the caption reads, followed by a camera emoji and a tag for @AnnieRhodesPhotography.
Naomi clicks on the tag, curious if Annie Rhodes is Meghan’s sister. And she’s right. She smiles, imagining an alternate reality where Faye is alive and famous and Naomi is the proud sister behind the scenes. Then she thinks about Emily Dutton, someone who suffered a similar fate, and how she was happy to help Naomi. Could it work with Meghan’s sister too? It’s worth a shot.
Hi Annie, my name is Naomi Barnes, she begins her message. Usually she notes her job title next to lend credibility, but she thinks in this case it might just cause Annie to scroll past. Instead, she uses a similar tactic to when she messaged Emily—the personal angle.
