My gut rolls.

I have no doubt they would have. “That’s fair.”

There is a part of me that’s grateful she does have extra eyes watching out for her, even if she doesn’t see it.

“Lori was a bit surprised. She blew up my phone the second my daughter walked in.” A smile tugs at Mason’s cheek. “I know sometimes it’s hard to keep secrets about that kind of thing. I felt like an insider that I already knew it was you.”

“Did you know she’s pregnant?” I drop the bomb on him.

Might as well get all the excitement over with.

His expression freezes, then slowly transforms into a wide grin. “Son of a bitch. Her and Sawyer? Hell.”

Dixon’s sharp exhale covers the corner of his mustache inching up.

“I didn’t know y’all were together that long—”

“It’s a story she can tell.” The last thing I want is him getting angry now about hiding who I was.

After all, it washeridea to start with.

I just carried it for a little while.

“Why don’t we go have some coffee? I’ll call Sophia down so she can decide what to do with her herd.” Mason’s calloused hand waves towards the main house where my guys are working.

Then the crow’s feet at his temples deepen when he points at the excavator.

“And then this afternoon you can show me how to run that thing so I can dig a hole if you ever hurt my daughter.” He throws me a wink, then turns on his heel and walks away.

Dixon’s laugh surprises me as he follows his brother.

I know it was partially in jest, but there’s a part of me that believes that Mason is a man of his word.

It's all connected

Sophia

TheBigO: I need you. But your dad wants to talk to you first in the main house.

His little upside downsmiley makes my belly tingle.

“I have to go see Dad. I’ll fill you in later.” With a wide smile, I grab my jacket.

“Wait, you can’t just drop something likethatand not explain.” Libby stands, following me, while Char and Lori both stare on, slack jawed.

“Let’s just say—” I pull up the zipper and slide my phone in my pocket. “—if you want a really fun time, ask Blue to wear a mask.”

“Holy shit! I fucking love you,” Libby giggles, then closes the door after I leave.

I feel like I’m practically floating as I step past the mud puddles freckling the driveway.

As soon as I see Oliver, stretched out at our big table with a cup of coffee and his cowboy hat tilted back to reveal his smiling dark eyes, reality crashes in on me in a burning wave.

I really do love this man.

His fingers tap above his knee, beckoning me to him.

Without a glance at my dad, I beeline for Oliver’s thick thighs and slide onto his lap.
