“I’m a morning person when I’ve slept all night.”

“Sorry.” I grimaced, and he smirked.

“Oh, don’t apologize for that,” he said and bumped his shoulder against mine. “Thanks for this by the way.” He raised his cup in the air.

“I hope you don’t mind I looked through your cupboards,” I said.

“Don’t worry. I don’t hide my secrets in the kitchen.”

“Oh, really?” I raised an eyebrow. “Wheredo youhide them?”

He didn’t reply, instead he drank his coffee and pretended I wasn’t there.

“Where did you find those cookies anyway?” he asked.

“In the kitchen. In one of the cupboards. Why?”

He shook his head.

“Nothing. I don’t remember buying them.”

I handed him the bag, and he sniffed it before he wrinkled his nose.

“Not a fan of ginger?” I asked.

“That’s not it.” He shook his head. “I just… I remembered where I got them.”

“Lilian’s,” I said. “Obviously.”

“Yeah. But it was the girls that got them for me when they were trying to convince me to put myself out there. They thought those might help.”

“Why would they…” I started then remembered the obvious.

They were Lilian cookies. Of course there was a catch with them.

“I dread to even ask. What are they? Ginger… Groom? No, she wouldn’t make something so gender specific. Ginger… Gay sex?”

Samir laughed.

“Close. Ginger Spice,” he said.

“Well, yeah. It’s ginger. It’s a spice.”

“That’s not the kind of spice she meant,” he said.

I paused.

I looked at the second cookie in my hand and grimaced.

“Are you trying to tell me I’m gonna get a boner from this?”

Samir laughed again.

“Maybe.”

I scoffed.

“Oh, baby. I don’t need the cookies for that,” I told him and set my coffee down so I could kiss Samir.
