He reaches for the door, and I watch before I rush from the bed, placing my hand against the wood and keeping it shut.

Asher turns to look at me, and I lift a finger to his lips, listening to the footsteps coming closer, rushing down the stairs. Two pairs.

He brought a girl home?

My mouth drops open and Asher's amused gaze finds mine.

"It won't happen again." My brother sounds monotone, emotionless as he says the words. Whoever he's speaking to replies, their voice too low to decipher. He says something else that I can't make out.

I cringe, typical of my brother to lay down the law right after showing his latest conquest the door.

The front door slams and then I hear him stomping his way up the stairs and stopping at my door.

My heart drops, my fingers spasming on Asher's shoulders and I look to him, wide eyed. Leon bangs on my door and I look to Asher, unsure what to do.

"What do I do?" I whisper.

"Answer him." He mutters lowly. "Before he opens the door."

"He won't open it."

"How do you know?"

Leon bangs on the door again, "Ivy?"

"Yeah?" I say, my voice high pitched before I clear it. "Yeah?"

"You up?"

"Obviously." Asher mutters and I whack his shoulder.

Leon continues, not waiting for an answer cause yes, I'm up. "I'm going out for breakfast; do you want me to bring you anything?"

I go to say no when Asher pinches my ass and I glare at him. 'Coffee,' he mouths. "Waffles with maple bacon." He whispers.

I sigh. "Coffee! Long black." I say, knowing it's Asher's favourite. "Waffles with maple bacon!"

Leon laughs on the other side, even if the laugh sounds forced. "God, you sound like Asher. Alright I'll get those. Don't forget I have a team meeting here this week, on Sunday!"

Asher looks at me, a twinkle in his eyes as we hear my brother leave. "I forgot about that meeting." And then he kisses me again., shoving me back towards my bed.

"What about class?" I whisper as he crowds me on the bed.

"Turns out I'm hungrier than I thought."

For a moment I think he's talking about me but then I remember I just ordered his favourite breakfast.

I flop back onto my bed, Asher grinning at me before he kisses me like he has all the time in the world.

The sunshine glimmers brightly over the courtyard. I hug my books tighter to my chest, trying to find somewhere in the courtyard to sit and study before my next class.

But it's a gorgeous day, meaning everybody is outside, basking in the sunshine and grateful to leave the oppressive building behind for even just a moment.
