Rowan couldn’t respond, couldn’t do anything but let the wall hold him up as he gasped air into his lungs.

“I’m sorry, but I have to go.”

“No,” Rowan managed to get out. “Please, don’t.”

But Ivor just backed away from him, shaking his head. “I knew it, I knew it,” he kept mumbling to himself.

Rowan could see the hard outline of Ivor’s arousal in his pants. “You want me just as much as I want you.”

“I told you how it is, Rowan.”

“What, that sex with a human drains us? I don’t care. I’m young—only twenty-four—and healthy. I have no doubt I can handle it.”

“It’s not just that.”

“Then what is it?”

But Ivor just shook his head again and turned to unlock the conference room door. “I’m sorry,” was all he said as he walked out.

Rowan slid to the floor and wrapped his arms around his raised legs. He buried his face in his knees with his eyes shut tight as he worked to bring his body back under control.

Nothing in his life had prepared him for this level of arousal. It overwhelmed him and left him needy and aching. He couldn’t believe Ivor could walk away as he had.

Rowan wasn’t going to let this go.

That incubus felt just as strongly as he did. Rowan had felt that inside his own body somehow. It was like he’d been absorbing Ivor’s pure delight in touching him. In kissing him.

So no, he was not going to fucking let this go.

Chapter Fourteen

Ivor

“I need you to stay with Rowan tonight while I go out to feed.”

Ivor had pulled Emory to a small nook next to the elevator. Everyone here knew how he fed his magic, but he didn’t want anyone telling Rowan where he’d gone. They weren’t anything to each other, not at this point, but that kiss had told him all he needed to know. It had also ramped up his need to feed. The hunger was blazing a trail of pain throughout his entire body.

Emory lifted an eyebrow. “You don’t look like you want to go out. Is it necessary?”

Ivor nodded and frowned at the weakness he could feel pulling at his body. “I don’t have a choice. Just please… Stay with him. He’s been getting more scared at night, so he needs someone to be there in case he needs them.”

“I think he’d rather it be you, Ivor.”

“Yeah, I’d rather it was me, too. But thanks.”

Emory stared hard at him before shaking his head. “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of him, but it’s damned obvious this isn’t what you want, so I’m concerned. You’re my friend—how you feel matters.”

“My magic is what it is. You know that.”

“Where are you going?”

“Maxi’s. It’s always easy to pull there.”

Emory laughed. “It’s always easy for you to pull everywhere.”

“I can say the same about you.” He said goodbye, then he slipped into the elevator.

The whole drive to Maxi’s, he felt like complete shit. He didn’t want to put his hands on anyone else, but his magic needed sustenance. His body felt weak and no amount of food would fix the problem. That kiss… it had been EVERYTHING.
