He nods and wraps his arms around me, locking his hands behind my back and sighing in unabashed contentment.

He holds me tightly. “I want you to stay, Luna. More than anything.”

I close my eyes, snuggle into him, and feel myself drifting into sleep. I’m going to save the big decisions for tomorrow. Tonight I’m going to lie in Cole’s arms and imagine what our future could look like.

CHAPTER 9

COLE

I pace the living room, back and forth.

It’s early morning, and Luna is still asleep in my bed.

Having Luna in my arms in bed is the best feeling. So good that I couldn’t resist her and took her two more times last night.

Eventually, I moved to the chair to resist temptation, but even watching her was just too much.

I forced myself to leave the bedroom in the early hours, sending Stone on a few errands. He just got back an hour ago, and he’s back in the guest house now as I wait for Luna to wake up.

I sit down, my knee bouncing in excitement. But I can’t sit still, so I stand back up.

“Cole,” Luna calls as she walks down the hallway toward me.

I walk toward her, taking in the sight of her in my T-shirt. I pick her up in my arms, carry her back to the couch, sit down, and bury my face in her hair.

I try to calm myself, and then I bring her face up to mine. “Morning,” I whisper before kissing her.

We jerk apart when Leo jumps onto Luna’s lap.

She gasps in surprise. “Leo. What? How?”

She holds her cat to her chest and looks at me. “What is Leo doing here?”

I tilt my head. “Don’t be mad.”

She gives me a stern look and then softly smiles. “How did Leo get here, Cole?”

I brush a piece of hair off her face and tuck it behind her ear. “I sent Stone over to your apartment this morning.”

She bites her lip, and I continue. “I might as well tell you everything. I had Stone get Leo, his toys, your clothes, and?—”

Her eyebrows skyrocket. “My clothes?”

I nod. “Yeah, honey.”

She looks confused and unsure, and I hate seeing it. I cup her cheek. “I was hoping after last night, you would know that we belong together.”

She blows out a breath. “It was sex.”

I shake my head, and my stomach drops. “Is that what it was to you, just sex?”

She searches my eyes and cups my cheek. “Cole, you know it was more than just sex.”

I nod. “Yeah, it was. Marry me, Luna. Please?”

I wait for her to tense. I wait for to tell me no, take her cat, and walk out of my house and life forever.

But she surprises me.
