“I should beat your ass,” she said flatly. “But I’m too damn happy to finally be out the house.”

She stomped past me then dropped onto my couch, kicking off her Balenciaga sneakers.

“Bitch, don’t you ever disappear on me like that again,” she continued. “You know I was in the doghouse for coming to save you? I ain’t get no dick for two whole weeks!” She pointed in my direction.

Rellianah pulled a blunt out her purse, lit it, and took a deep pull before coughing slightly. Smoke floated through the room while her eyes scanned my new house.

“I’m sorry girl, you and King scared the shit out of me no lie. I need some space but planned on reaching out sooner.” I confessed honestly.

Rellianah waved her hand at me dismissively while taking another pull from her blunt. I didn’t even bother asking how she found my address. If she knew where I lived… I was sure King knew too.

“I would’ve popped up sooner,” she said, exhaling smoke slowly, “but I figured I’d give you some space.” Her tone shifted slightly.

“I know you still grieving your mom. And then you had to see me and King in a different light.” She leaned back into the couch.

“Killing people used to be normal for me,” she said casually. “I could kill somebody, eat dinner, then go to sleep like nothing happened. That shit gave me a rush.”

I stared at her blankly.

She shrugged.

“That’s just the life I came from. I changed it because it wasn’t healthy… but if somebody I love is in danger? I’ll doit again without blinking.” She took another slow hit from the blunt.

Her words had me sitting there stunned. I had never even imagined killing someone before. But then my hand instinctively moved to my stomach. Suddenly a thought hit me hard.

If someone tried to hurt my baby… I would kill without hesitation. That realization scared and comforted me at the same time. Then knowing I had people in my life now who cared enough about me to go that far… meant something.

“I ain’t apologizing for none of that either,” Rellianah continued bluntly. “That’s why I stayed away. If you don’t want my friendship because of it, that’s fine.” She looked me directly in the eyes before continuing. “I’ll miss you… but I don’t kiss nobody’s ass except my own.”

She paused, then smirked.

“And sometimes my man’s ass if I need forgiveness.”

We both burst out laughing.

Just like that, the tension disappeared, and it felt like old times again.

“So where your baby daddy at?” She asked casually.

I blinked.

“How the hell you know that?” I frowned.

She looked at me like I was stupid.

“Girl please. Ever since your ass disappeared, that man been blowing my phone up. Asking if I talked to you yet.” She rolled her eyes.

“When y’all made up he called me and told me about it too. He sounded real happy.” Rellianah smiled.

My gaze dropped to the carpet. Guilt twisted in my chest. I hadn’t even given King a chance to explain himself. I just exploded and walked away.

“I fucked up,” I murmured quietly.

Rellianah smacked her lips.

“I swear people need to start paying me for therapy sessions.” She huffed out.

She leaned forward, her expression serious now.
