Removing his hand from his mate’s mouth, then giving him a kiss Logan said, “As interesting as your train of thought is, babe, I don’t think Brian’s mate is invisible on land because he’d have to eat and sleep.”
“I agree with Logan, Ki. I mean, like, where would he eat? In a restaurant? I think a waiter would freak out if they heard only a voice ordering a steak,” said Fionn.
Giggling as he pictured that happening, Kieran said, “Good point, so maybe he’s invisible only when he’s flying.”
“Possible, but we may be missing something,” said Logan. “Right now, I think it’s time we return to the hotel. Fionn, how’s your dragon? Feeling better?” asked Logan.
Grinning, Fionn said, “Doing good.”
“Okay, then let’s go.

A white dragon! A fucking white dragon!Reif kept repeating that to himself as he flew back to where his car was. Never in a million—well, at least 2,000 years—did he ever expect to see one; his father always claimed the gods would never send another to earth. So white dragons had passed into legend, so much so, he knew his father would never believe him. Only because his beast recognized the white dragon’s presence and alerted him to it did he realize the gods had sent another. But why now? What changed after 2,000 years that would make the gods relent?
Reif’s mind searched for everything he knew; it wasn’t much since white dragons weren’t included in the History of Paranormal Beings anymore. Unwilling to chance encountering anyone, especially the black dragonwho was obviously guarding the mythical one, he flew low and realized he hadn’t seen the black dragon because it had blended in with the darkness and it was only by chance the clouds had parted, allowing the moonlight to illuminate it when he looked up.
The same moonlight the white dragon’s scales had reflected back, only a hundred, maybe a thousand, times brighter…ah yes, the goddess of the moon sent him. Holy fuck, a lunar white dragon is given a supernatural power by the goddess. But if I’m right, why did he need a black dragon guarding him? That doesn’t make sense…oh, my gods…the black dragon represents death, and the white represents rebirth…but whose death? Shit, I wish I could remember.
After putting more of the pieces together, Reif gasped when he realized the value of the white dragon.Shit, it would save my people. My father and the rest of my people wouldn’t be in danger anymore. They could go back to living instead of just waiting for death to claim them. I could go home, forget all about the endless search and the man who’s making everyone’s lives a living hell.Reif thought about how he could bring the white dragon under his control. Angered at that thought, his beast roared. Then, taking control, he headed for the marina to search for his mate.

The flight back to the hotel from where they’d launched was uneventful, something Logan was grateful for since he was worried that whatever had hit him might attack again. After his conversation with his mate regarding the rarity of white dragons, he was sure it had been hunting Fionn, which meant he had to talk to Groose and Jackson pronto. Landing on the roof and going through their post flight routine, Logan said, “Fionn, I’m calling Jacksonabout the need for extra protection at the hearing. Given what happened tonight, I’m also increasing the enforcers assigned to you but even with the extra protection, I don’t want you leaving the hotel until the hearing.”
Frowning, Fionn said, “Fine, but you promised to tell me why I’m in danger just because I’m a white dragon.”
Kieran took his friend’s hand, tugging him towards the door leading down to their suites. “C’mon, Fi, I’ll answer all of your questions while Logan calls the Alpha.”
For a moment, Fionn hesitated, understanding his whole life was about to change once his friend filled in the gaps of his knowledge. He had figured when he was eight years old there was something unique about his dragon, mainly because he could sense how afraid his mother was of his father ever finding out and because she continually stressed the importance of never telling anyone what his dragon’s color was. Even at last breath, she made him swear never to shift in front of his father. Yet in all that time, his mother never told him why. Now, he was going to find out. “Thanks Ki,” he said, relieved but still edgy, as he followed his friend who had the answers that had eluded him so long.
Chapter 13
His beast was closing in on the marina when Reif finally regained control of him after proffering many apologies and promises never to harm the white dragon. Reluctantly reversing course, his beast returned to where Reif had shifted. Once on the ground, Reif descended the mountain and, rejecting the idea of owning the white dragon. But it didn’t mean he couldn’t try to persuade him to help him find the treasure.
But first I have to find him before he can help me. No, first I have to find out more about white dragons.Contemplating whether to speak to his father, or maybe one of the elders, he decided not to tell his father anything; he just had a sense of foreboding about doing that. Turning it over in his mind, he tried to see what was causing it, but couldn’t figure it out. In the end, he trusted his gut, deciding to start with the online paranormal library. Now with a plan in place, Reif headed for his car, eager to get home and start researching.

Pacing around the room, Logan held his phone to his ear, waiting for his brother to pick up so he could dump another thing in Jackson’s lap.Oh, joy! He’s going to stop talking to me if I keep up doing this shit.
“Hey, bro,” asked Jackson, after he answered, “did you find Brian’s mate tonight?”
“Fuck, no! A major clusterfuck!” exclaimed Logan.
“What happened?” asked Jackson.
“Nothing I can’t handle but there’s a bigger problem. You’ll love this especially because you’re wild about dragons,” Logan said.
“Yeah? Don’t tell me Fionn is pregnant,” sniggered Jackson.
“Fuck no! Hey, don’t even joke about that…although it might be easier to deal with,” Logan mused.
“Easier than a pregnant dragon? I don’t think so. Now you have my attention. Go ahead, tell me what would be harder for me to deal with than that.”
“Here goes…tonight I found out Fionn is a white dragon,” Logan said. Silence greeted him. “Jackson, did you hear me? Jackson!”
Stunned, shocked—Jackson couldn’t think of a strong enough word to describe how he felt when Logan dropped his bomb, because there weren’t any words strong enough to describe his feelings. He first thought Logan was pranking him because of his love of everything dragon when he was a boy, but he quickly dismissed it. Logan wouldn’t fuck around with something like that,or would he?“Really? You saw Fionn shift into a white dragon?” asked Jackson, still hoping it was just a joke.
