“I’ll come with you.” Quain jumped out of bed, showing more energy than Peter had seen from him before. Maybe Quain had finally had enough rest since hiscapture.
“You don’t have to. I can visit the garage and return to pick you up. You had a long dayyesterday.”
Quain straightened his hair with Peter’s comb. “I want to meet your employees and see how you run your garage. I’ll wait to take a shower until later when I can grab some freshclothes.”
Peter had no objection to his mate’s honest curiosity about his life. “I only have two employees. Scott and Callen, both wolf shifters.” Peter had convinced the two to leave pack security detail to work for him. Silver had enough guards, and Peter had really needed the help. They had both been enthusiastic when he offered them a job. Silver hadn’t minded since Peter’s garage served thepack.
“Do you have some more clothes for me?” Quain asked. If not, I can stop at my place before we head to thegarage.
“I have some sweats and a T-shirt if you want something to wear short-term.” His wolf liked the idea of Quain wearing something of Peter’s and mixing their scents together. It soothed his innerbeast.
“That would begreat.”
Peter fetched the clothes. He brought them back to the bed and dropped them on Quain before giving him a big wet kiss on theforehead.
“Ooh, puppy slime,” Quainteased.
Peter gave a playful growl. “I’ll show youslime.”
“I thought that’s what your shower was going to take care of.” Quain’s eyes sparkled withhumor.
Peter wagged a finger at him. “Trouble. That’s what you are. Nothing buttrouble.”
Quain’s sexy smile sent jolts of need down his body. “I’m worth every bit oftrouble.”
“I can only imagine.” Peter headed for the bathroom before he lost his fight against temptation. “There’s a second bathroom down the hall if you change your mind about ashower.”
A half hour later, they were clean, dressed, and heading to Peter’s garage. “After we talk to my guys, we’ll go to your place and decide what you want to take with you for now until you decide if you want to move inpermanently.”
“Good idea.” Quain pulled at the overlarge shirt. “Even mated, my father will expect me to keep up my appearance. My parents have always been sticklers for having a properattire.”
“We’ll make sure you’re well dressed beforelunch.”
Quain might be old enough to live on his own, but his behavior showed he cared about his parents’opinion.
Quain squeezed Peter’s hand. “No reason to be worried. It’s not as if they can stop us from beingmates.”
Tension eased from Peter’s shoulders. “I’ve never met the family of anyone I’ve dated before,” he offered inexplanation.
“Good thing we’re not dating. It keeps you with a perfectrecord.”
Peter barked out his laughter, then gave Quain a fond smile. “True, and that is the important thing here, not to ruin myrecord.”
“Yep,” Quainagreed.
With light traffic, it only took ten minutes to reach the garage. The doors were already rolled up. Callen had a truck up on the lift, and Scott stood behind the counter, dealing with acustomer.
They exited the van, and Peter headed towards Scott first to see if he needed any help. Quainfollowed.
Peter narrowed his eyes as he examined the customer. Something familiar about him triggered Peter’s sense of danger. After a minute, when the customer didn’t do anything untoward, Peter turned back to check on Quain. Quain’s gaze darted around, examining everything with childlikewonder.
“You were here just yesterday,” Peter said, grinning at Quain’santics.
Quain shrugged. “Yes, but I was concentrating on you. I didn’t pay much attention to thegarage.”
Before he could tease, Quain stilled and his eyes glowed white. “Duck,” Quainshouted.
Peter dropped to the floor, instinctively following theorder.
