CHAPTER 34

KYRA

“Shit.” I cry out. My head is finally catching up to the fact that I just walked out of work without letting them know that I was leaving. Pulling my phone out of my bag, I shoot my boss a quick text.

Me: Hey sorry for just walking out. I am going to head out for the day.

Ashley: No problem. We all know how horrible Mike is. You need some time to decompress. See you tomorrow.

While this job has always kind of sucked the life out of me, they have always been good to me. Starting the Jeep, I head back to the house to see what the Devil Dogs are going to get up to with Mike tonight.

The drive back to the house is pretty calm. I listened to my audiobook, and it was just starting to get good. The MMC finally had the “fuck it” moment and kissed the FMC, and their passion could burn the world down through the speakers of my car.

Fuck, what I wouldn’t give to allow Cal to burn my world down again.

“Hush, you.” While I know the voice isn’t wrong, I need to keep my wits about me. He is way too easy to give into and while the orgasm would be amazing, I have toys that can get me off, too.

It will be a game-time decision. I laugh in my own head. I can’t believe this is life now. There is a whole group of humans who will help me kidnap my ex to teach him a lesson. I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if, when I get back to the house, Aly, Jason, and David are already there.

Approaching the gate in front of the house, I notice it is still open. The guys must have just left it open for me. The driveway is long, and the snow is that dirty-brown color because it is finally starting to melt. Spring is approaching, slowly, but she is coming.

The driveway has Nyx’s cruiser outside of the garage, but the door is already closed. Parking my jeep where I found it, Cal’s normal parking spot. I climb out and walk into the house through the side door in the garage.

I can hear voices murmuring from the basement. There is a room in the basement that I was told is off-limits, but as I walk down the stairs, I see the door is open, and Nyx is standing in the doorway with Graham.

“Hey.” I slowly step down off the stairs and head over to Nyx. She pulls me into her for a hug.

“Hey, girlie. Do you want to be a part of this? We can handle it for you.” She says, leaning her face down into my hair. The move from anyone else would feel very much like something that a lover would do. But our relationship has always been platonic.

“No, I have to do this. I am going to put my foot down on murder, though.” I steel my spine and hold my head high. I willnot let them see me waver or shake. If I am going to be a part of this adoptive Devil Dog family, I need to be able to hold my own.

Callum is standing next to Demitri, by a table full of tools. It feels like I am walking into a movie, and I almost want to pinch myself to make sure this isn’t a dream. There are so many different knives, saws, and shit, there is even an assortment of hammers. What in the world could they use these for? I am so out of my depth.

“Hey, Sunflower.” Cal cuts off Demitri midsentence the moment he sees me standing in the doorway.

“Hi.” I keep it short and sweet. I refuse to give away how terrified I am of all of this.

“You do not need to be here.” He echoes what Nyx has already said.

“I am aware, Callum.” I hold his gaze; my eyes give nothing away. He leans in and kisses me on the forehead, and in that moment, I want to melt. I broke this man’s heart, from what I have heard, but yet he is still here to support me and take care of business. “I need to do this.”

I cross the room and come face-to-face with Mike, who has been restrained again. The chains and cuffs look so much like what had me chained to the bed in the cabin, I have to look beyond him to gather myself. I will not break, I will not bend. This is for my peace. Mike needs to know he has no place in my life anymore and to disappear.

“Hi, Michael.” I look down my nose at him. Channeling a bad ass FMC from one of my books.

“Bitch.” It’s one word, but I can feel the venom in it. This is not the first time he has called me that name, or worse.

“Seems like you no longer have the upper hand, darling.”I put on a sickly-sweet tone when I used the nickname I used to call him.

“Only because you had your guard dogs take me down. When it was just us, you could never have the upper hand.” He snarls.

“These guard dogs will wipe your existence from this planet with just one word from her,” Callum growls from the other side of the room. His body is reclined back on the cold concrete wall, one foot propped up. He is just missing the cigarette hanging from his mouth to look like a bad boy from any movie.

Fuck, stop staring, Ky.

“You are at MY mercy, Mike. I am the only thing stopping them from killing your sorry, pathetic ass.” I squat down in front of him so he can meet my eyes. “Hand me a knife.”

I place my hand out towards Cal, and he hands me a knife. It’s a short blade, can’t be more than three inches. I suppose I could measure it against Mike’s cock. The handle appears to be made out of bone or antler. It has got to just be a basic hunting knife. Nothing elaborate or fancy. I gently scrape the pad of my thumb over it to test the sharpness.
