I wake up alone in bed again, but I can smell a sweet cinnamon scent coming from the kitchen. Crawling out of bed, I snag my fuzziest sweatshirt and my slippers before wiping the eyecrusties out of my eyes. Wandering out to the kitchen, I see Dee standing at the small island, cooking French toast on an electric skillet, and Nyx is sitting on the couch with a large cup of coffee in her hand. Her kindle resting on the arm of the couch.
“Look at y’all making yourselves at home in my house.” I yawn.
“Good morning, Sunshine.” Nyx jumps off the couch, sets her coffee down then she is on me. Pulling me into a crushing hug while I breathe in her warm vanilla scent.
“I thought you could use a good breakfast, and Nyx needs to eat, and she wasn’t going to leave you here alone. So here I am, cooking breakfast in my guest house.” Demitri laughs while explaining himself.
“Has anyone checked on Cal?” I know I shouldn’t care, but damn if I can’t make myself not worry about him.
“Graham is with him.” Dee gives me a look like he’s waiting for me to decide if I want more information
“Okay, good.”
I walk over to the cupboard and pull out my favorite coffee mug, pouring myself a cup of the sweetest energy ever. Placing it on the counter for a moment to retrieve my creamer and pour a generous amount of the peppermint goodness into the mug.
Heading over to the couch, I wrap my softest blanket around my shoulders and sit down opposite Nyx. Who has taken her place back on the couch.
“So I was thinking maybe we should go do some wedding stuff today?” Nyx looks over at me with a smile.
“Yes, drag the heartbroken girl out to celebrate love. Sounds like fun, babe.” I can’t help but laugh.
“Ah ha! I made you laugh. But still, we need to get going on this. We booked the venue and all that, but I need a dress.”
“Fine.” I groan. “Can I eat first?”
Well duh. I didn’t drag Demon here just because it would be fun to make the guest house smell good.”
Demitri brings over two large stacks of French toast, loaded with fresh berries, whipped cream, and powdered sugar. With strips of bacon on the side. The moment the plate is in my hands, my stomach grumbles loudly, making me realize how hungry I actually am.
What fucking time is it?
The clock on the stove says it’s 11:30, that must be why I’m starving.
“Eat up, then get ready. We have an appointment at one.” Nyx digs into her breakfast while Dee joins us in the living room. His own plate of French toast overflowed.
We all finish up our breakfast, and Demitri takes both of our plates and sets them in the sink. Before telling us that he will clean these up after we head out for the day. Nyx and Dee head back to the main house so she can shower and get around for the day.
Standing from the couch, I take a big stretch, reaching my hands way above my head and leaning back slightly. My body is sore from being snuggled up with Nyx all night and just holding all the tension of the night before.
You know, you can just call him and fix this right?
Ignoring the voice in my head that thinks we can just fix this, I head to the bathroom to take the hottest shower I can stand. I could use a little pain today.
CHAPTER 30
KYRA
”Does this come in black?” Nyx asks the attendant who has been helping her into the dresses.
The dress she is wearing is absolutely gorgeous, but definitely not for her. First of all, it is white white. If Nyx decided she was wearing white, I might have a heart attack. The closest I could see her getting is a champagne or nude under black lace.
“Let me go see what we can order in black. Are you open to a black lace overlay, with a nude or cream material underneath?” The attendant is an airy woman, very tall, extremely thin, and couldn’t stick her nose up in the air any more than it is currently.
She is probably looking at me, sitting here in my black leggings and oversized bookish hoodie, wondering what in the world I am doing in a bridal boutique. It was the best I could manage today. I managed to take a shower and throw my hair into a ponytail with just enough concealer under my eyes to fake that I didn’t cry in the shower.
The attendant comes back with a gorgeous all-black gown, but with a closer look, it is going to be way too much for Nyx. It is covered in black rhinestones and sequins. I’m sure I could get her to wear something with a little more bling, but that gown isbeing weighed down by the amount of sparkle. That is more of a me style.
“Ummm…no,” That is all Nyx says when she sees the dress, and I burst out laughing. I know her too damn well sometimes. “Ky, will you try on some bridesmaid dresses? I can’t try on another ounce of tulle. I just want to sit here and drink this champagne.”
