Page 16 of His Deception

Gino returned Luca’s stare, and then he gave him a nod. “If you see her, or hear anything, I’d appreciate it if you’d let me know.”

“Of course.”

Moving carefully, Gino turned to take his leave. When he saw me standing in front of the door, he smirked. “Get out of the way, boy.”

I glanced at Luca, waiting for his nod before I moved to the side and allowed them to leave. Opening the door for Gino and his men, I watched him walk out to his car. Something was definitely going on. He walked as though someone had cut off his balls.

Narrowing my eyes, I remembered the blood on Luna’s chest and the stained neckline of her tank top when I’d grabbed her mid-escape from Gino’s yard. She’d told me he had a gun, and she’d bitten him, but she hadn’t told me where.

The world around me turned red as I imagined what he was doing to have her mouth that close to his cock. His own fucking daughter.

My hand went to my gun as the car drove off, the tires kicking up a few rocks that were on the pavement.

“Tristan. Come in here, and close the door, please.”

Luca’s order sifted through my murderous thoughts, but it took me a few seconds to obey. Closing the door, I walked over to him and Enzo. The buzzing in my head was loud, and my teeth were clenched so hard they hurt, but I did as I was told.

“Where is Luna?” Luca’s bright blue eyes burned through the lies on my tongue.

I didn’t answer him.

“Tristan. Tell me where Luna is.”

“What makes you think I know?” I finally said. Not a lie, exactly. But not the truth.

I expected him to ask me more questions the way he always did, but apparently his patience was up with me, too.

Walking around me, he ripped open the front door.

“STOP.” My gun was in my hand, and it was pointed at Luca’s head.

“T. What the fuck are you doing? Put the gun down!” Enzo was in my ear, but I couldn’t hear him past the hoard of red-eyed demons screaming in my head. I needed to protect Luna. And nothing and no one was going to stop me.

Luca stopped short in the doorway and slowly turned. When he saw the gun pointed at him, he stepped back inside and shut the door. “You have her.”

I didn’t respond. It was none of his fucking business.

“Where is she?” he asked. “Tied up somewhere? Or locked in your cell?”

“Luca?”

I glanced toward the stairs. Veda stood frozen halfway down the stairs, one hand on the rail. Her eyes were wide, and her voice shook with fear.

Never taking his eyes from me, Luca tried to reassure her. “Everything is fine, amore. Go back upstairs. I’ll come up when Tristan and I are done talking.”

She didn’t move, and I cocked my head at Luca.

“Enzo, please get Veda back upstairs so T and I can talk.”

From the corner of my eye, I saw Enzo take a step closer to me. “Do not pull that fucking trigger,” he ordered.

“It’s fine, Enz. Go with Veda.”

I didn’t lower the gun as we waited for Enzo to get her out of the way. From the commotion I heard on the stairs, she didn’t go easily, and he ended up practically carrying her back up the stairs and into Luca’s room.

When we heard the slam of the bedroom door, Luca inhaled and exhaled through his nose as he studied me. Throughout everything happening with Veda, he’d never taken his eyes off me. “Are you going to shoot me, T?” he asked softly.

“Honestly? I’m not sure.” It was true. Luca was probably the closest thing I’d ever had to a brother, but right now, there were no feelings of family loyalty keeping me from taking him out if he decided to come between me and Luna.
