Gritting my teeth, I watched the evidence of my desecration run down the tiles. With my hand, I spread it around until it blended in and wouldn’t be noticed. The next time Luna showered, it would be in my cum.
I found the soap and finished washing myself, making sure all the blood went down the drain before I shut off the water.
By the time I dried myself off with her towel, whatever the hell had happened to me in the shower had settled somewhat. I hung her towel back where I’d found it and put my clothes and boots back on. Most of the blood had dried and wasn’t so noticeable now. Picking up her brush, I ran it through my hair, brushing back the longer strands on top away from my face before I put on my shoulder holster.
With a quick look around to make sure I hadn’t left anything, I turned off the light and quietly opened the door. Luna had rolled over and was now sleeping on her other side, and I could see the bare skin of one shoulder where the sheet had ridden down, covered only by the thin strap of some type of tank top. Her earbuds were still in her ears.
I crept over to the bed and stared at that stretch of pale skin. So smooth and unmarked. Like her hair, I wanted to feel the texture so badly that I instinctively reached toward her. I got so close I felt the warmth radiating from her skin before I managed to come to my senses and stopped with the tips of my fingers less than half an inch from her shoulder. Curling my hand into a fist, I pulled my arm back.
Luna was not mine to touch. And she never would be. No woman would ever be mine.
That all too familiar feeling of being alone in the darkness descended over me, and my insides hollowed out. I needed to leave before I did something stupid. Like climb into bed with her.
Checking that my phone, the strands of her hair, and that horrible bottle of perfume were still in my pockets, I went out the way I’d come in, closing the window and fastening the screen back into place. Then I jogged back to the SUV, not bothering to watch for Gino’s men, who were probably dozing on the front entryway where they’d been when I’d come in. At least, I hoped they were. If either of them showed themselves, they wouldn’t be waking up tomorrow.
And I didn’t want anything interfering with my visits to see Luna.
CHAPTER 10
Luna
When I woke up, my eyes were still swollen from my self-pity party the night before, so I took a quick shower and pressed a cold, wet washcloth to my eyes. It helped reduce the swelling a bit, and after a few minutes, I felt a little more human.
I pulled on a long-sleeved green shirt that I knew Gino liked. The tight cotton accentuated my breasts and flared out over my hips, but was short enough that it didn’t hide my ass in the washed-out jeans I wore with it. I didn’t bother with shoes, just some thick socks because the house felt cold this morning.
Testing my bedroom door, I found it was unlocked. I pulled it open and glanced up and down the hall. I didn’t see anyone, but I heard voices coming from the direction of the kitchen, and the strong aroma of bacon teased my nose. My stomach rumbled loudly. Following the smell of food, I made my way to the dining room.
As I approached the doorway, I heard Gino talking to someone and hesitated. I almost turned around and went back to my room, but my growling stomach convinced me to at least peek inside.
Gino spotted me right away. “Luna. Come get some breakfast.”
He waved me in, and I headed to the breakfast buffet set up along the sidewall as Gino’s attention returned to the man sitting with him. I quickly glanced at the back of his head, but I didn’t recognize him. However, that didn’t mean much. Gino was always talking to people. I honestly didn’t pay much attention to what he was doing or with who unless it directly affected me. Otherwise, it was none of my business.
I made myself a plate, planning to take it back to my room so I didn’t interrupt them, when he surprised me by saying, “Luna, why don’t you bring over the pot of coffee with you.”
Recognizing a demand when I heard one, I grabbed the coffeepot, balancing my orange juice in the crook of my arm as I took it, my plate, and the coffee to the table. I set it down in front of him with a small smile, then stood awkwardly with my plate while he refilled his cup.
“Join us,” he told me. “Luna, this is Milo. Milo, this is my…companion, Luna.”
The man sitting with Gino was younger than I’d expected, with bright, mossy green eyes that were startling in their intensity. A mustache covered his upper lip, attached to a short beard that was little more than a five o’clock shadow, and did nothing to hide his angular jaw. His shaggy, blond hair reminded me of a surfer, and the defined muscles of his shoulders and arms were noticeable even underneath his long-sleeved, navy blue shirt. A black hoop earring adorned his left ear. His shy smile and boy next door looks didn’t fool me, though. Anyone associated with Gino was dangerous in one way or another. “Nice to meet you,” I told him with a small smile as I sat down with my plate.
“Same,” he said. Without taking his eyes off me, he asked Gino, “Where the hell did you get a looker like this one?”
Gino glanced up from his plate where he was scraping up the last of his egg yolk with a slice of toast. “I won her in a poker game.”
Milo’s eyebrows shot up. “No shit? Who the hell would be stupid enough to bet a treasure like this?”
“Me,” I told him as I cut into my pancakes. “I did.”
Gino laughed. “Gave me a run for my money, she did. It was pure luck that I ended up with the hand I had.”
“Luck? Or cheating?” Milo asked him with a grin.
Gino set down his coffee mug a little harder than necessary. “Are you calling me a cheater, boy?”
My fork stilled on its way back to my plate, and my muscles tensed, prepared to jump up and dive under the table if shots suddenly broke out. But I was taking my damn breakfast with me.
But Milo just smiled harder. “Nah. I’m not saying that at all. But hell, Gino. I’d cheat my ass off to get a hold of a girl like this.”
