“Me?” I squeal, clutching my chest again.

Admittedly, my heart is racing, and I feel like I’ve run a marathon.

“Stay fucking there!” Kade warns, his focus being torn by both Victor, and me.

“Arrest her! She kidnapped me!” Victor shouts, spittle going everywhere.

“Get on the ground!” Kade yells.

I mean, I don’t move, and neither does Victor.

“What the hell are you doing. Shoot her you fucking idiot! She kidnapped me.”

I hold my father’s angry glare as I speak again. “You say the strangest things sometimes.”

His reaction is instant, and deafening. But the words I chose, and have wanted to say for so long are louder.

Kade stands stock still as he continues assessing the unfolding chaos. He holds his gun aimed between both of us.

Unlike Victor who’s diving headfirst into another epic meltdown, Kade radiates professionalism, and calmness. I can see why he was such a successful agent, and I feel a small dip in my mood knowing I’ll never actually see him do it again.

He turns his head slightly, ignoring Victor’s ongoing ranting, as he waits for me to lead.

“Victor,” I say quietly. Interrupting Victor’s ongoing verbiage solely directed at Kade for not shooting, or detaining me yet.

“Special Agent Memphis isn’t here for you. He’s not here to listen to your story. He’s not here to keep you safe or to rescue you. He’s only here for me.” Victor’s screaming comes to a stop as he hears what I’m saying. I shrug unperturbed by his gathering resentment. “I wanted you to know what it felt like. How small it made me feel being with you that day in your office.”

Kade’s expression, his whole demeanor, shifts from Interpol Agent to sweet protector. His eyes fill with pride, and his subtle cinnamon scent rushes forward to reinforce his unspoken message. He swings his weapon, so it tracks only on Victor before he looks at me again.

“Hey, beautiful. You’re amazing,” he smiles. And Kade smiling is like looking at the sun. Warmth and positive vibes radiate off him and tunnel towards me.

“What the fuck are you doing?!!?” Victor screams.

“Quinny, are you ready to go soon?” Kade prowls towards me, and Victor takes another hurried step closer. Logically, he’s making a run for it, aiming for the door in his attempt to escape but he trips ass up forgetting about the chains tethered around his ankles.

He only just catches himself for falling face first onto the concrete floor.

“You’re Interpol! Arrest her you fucking idiot! Did you hear me?”

Kade shakes his head, and relooks at the scene in front of him but I get it, Victor really is so self-obsessed it takes a little to get used to. Kade doesn’t reply, I mean, Victor completely ignored what I just said so Kade’s not about to waste any more time explaining the situation again to my father.

My sweet Beta fires his gun, the bullet slamming into the wall above Victor’s head.

I pull out my earplugs I was wearing, flicking them at Victor for good measure, before I walk over to Kade. His arm is up, and I snuggle into his side.

“Special Agent Kade Memphis is currently on extended leave from Interpol, Victor. But let’s be real, even if he wasn’t he wouldn’t be here saving your miserable ass. Actually, while we’re doing introductions, let me introduce you to my other pack mates. And perhaps this time, listen to what I say.”

Santiago walks in, and waves at our prisoner. He stops next to me and leans down to kiss me very softly. “Are you ready to start the timer?”

“What are you on about you little bitch? What the fuck is going on?”

Where Santiago basically floated in on his sweet calmness, Aleksei rages in like the proverbial bull in a China Shop. He is all Alpha; dominance and violence. And none of it is currently contained.

A simple look from Aleksei, and Victor gulps, swallowing whatever he was going to say. Aleksei is staring at him in challenge. Alpha to Alpha there is no comparison between the two. It’s like saying Clown Fish and White Pointer sharks are similar.

I start talking again while my favourite Russian continues to eviscerates Victor with only his stare. “I believe you, and Santiago, might have met a few years ago, Victor. When you were in Columbia trying to muscle in on Cartel action.”

Victor drops his eyes from my Alpha’s, making Aleksei laugh villainously. To make matters infinitely worse, Victor fails to hide how he still isn’t fully comprehending what’s going on.
