I hang up feeling better. More settled in what’s coming next too. I’m not a fan of violence against women. I’ve never even smacked Raney as a kid but knowing I’ll be filling a woman’s head with lead is a regret I’ll live with because what they did has changed Tristan forever. And that will not go unpunished.

Chapter

Fifty-Five

TRISTAN

Waking up this time, I feel better. Different even. Climbing over Tyson, I stop on my way out the door to pull a blanket over King who’s on the sectional in the bedroom suite.

“You good, killer?” he mumbles, his eyes opening up as soon as I move the blanket.

“Yeah. I’m going to have a shower and order room service. I’ll wake you up again soon.”

Of course he follows me out of the room. Along with Tyson.

“You should have slept longer,” I say, intentionally staying quiet so Steel can rest more. Except my stomach decides to make enough noise to wake the dead.

King ignores my earlier comment and my tummy, scooping me off my feet and carrying me through the hotel suite to the sitting room. He bends over so I can pick up the remote control for the television before sitting down with me in his lap.

“Swanky hotel has the Room Service order system up on the television,” he explains.

“Most do,” I tell him, while figuring out which buttons to press. He’s quiet while I sort it out, and I don’t bother asking himwhat he or Ty want to eat, I just order everything I think will be good.

“Fuck, Tris, that’s enough,” King grumbles after my second run through of the menu. He grabs the remote out of my hand and finishes the order, waiting until he sees the timer for delivery before he throws the remote over to the other side of the room.

He pulls my head to his chest, and the steady beat of his heart is racing before his voice rumbles through where we’re joined. “You ready?”

I shake my head. I knew this was coming and I also knew he wouldn’t let it go, and I love him for that. Standing up in front of him, I wait until Tyson takes a seat next to King on the sectional.

Taking one more big steady breath, I look at them both before I pull off the top I was sleeping in and drag Maverick’s shorts down too. Tyson sits up on the edge of his seat, his hands running over each bruise and cut while King waits his turn.

Tyson is detached in his assessment, well, his touches are. The simmering anger in his eyes is very much in line with the raging inferno in King’s.

“Do you have any sore spots? More than the others, I mean,” Tyson asks, turning me around for another look.

“Just here.” I point to the edge of my collar bone. And Tyson’s hands glide under mine pressing down gently.

“Nothing is broken.”

“Yeah, I figured.” And then I climb in the middle of them both, grab a hand from each of them to anchor us together as they look at my neck. And I know it’s bad. I saw the ring of bruises in the mirror quickly last night, make-up will cover it up easily but the both of them are also aware Rex choked me out.

Tyson leans up and presses a kiss on the side where his bite is before his kisses move over the bruises from Rex’s fingers. “You’re so brave, my girl. I’m sorry you got hurt.”

Tyson looks at King, his stormy eyes full of everything we don’t need to say, before he gently pushes me over onto King’s lap. “I’ll get a shower going.”

King doesn’t say a word yet. I know he’s pissed off. I am too. But I need to move past what happened. I nab King’s hands and lift them up to where Rex’s were. He looks coldly at me, and I stare at him hard.

“Don’t you treat me like I can break. You never have before,” I growl, leaning backwards, making the pressure of King’s hands tighten; it’s that or I fall off his lap.

“I get that. You’re not going to be around when I have a chat with Rex.”

“Didn’t want to be. He’s a disgusting piece of shit and I never want to see his face again. I suspect you won’t be alone though.”

He shrugs, his lips lifting up slightly. “Good. They need the reminder of what I will fucking do to anyone if you’re hurt.”

“Fine. But you will also remember I won’t break. I haven’t yet and we’ve gone through some serious shit and we’re still… amazing.”

I’m nearly lying completely backwards, the only thing keeping me from falling is him.
