“Food is important too.” He winks when I look up at him. “I made these from a special family recipe. They were our mom’s favourite. They’re full of sugar, spice, and all things nice, a bit like you, or not.” I get jiggled by his laughing at his own joke.
They’re delicious. Of course, they are. A bit like the loose cannon I’m reclining on. Darius has a side of him that a lot of people would frown upon—it’s bad-boy mixed with I do what I want and damn the consequences. He most certainly is a walking contradiction, but I think he loves that more than the chaos he brings. The chaos that makes me feel alive.
One cookie is all I manage before I roll onto my side, looking at Kai. He too is responsible for all these feelings swirling around inside me. One glance at the auction and I was a goner for him and spending more time with him, I can easily see the future Darius was talking about.
“Would you like anything else, rohi?” Kai asks.
“This is good. Thanks,” I offer, closing my eyes. He reaches over and kisses my forehead before he decides to stay. Using a pillow to get comfy, Darius’s fingers keep sweeping up and down my leg, while Kai links our fingers, pulling them to his lips before he closes his eyes.
And despite being surrounded by Alphas that make my head spin, with more questions than answers, they make me feel so safe.
I don’t even try to fight the sleep that takes hold.
ChapterTwenty-Four
HEIDI
When I wake up, Kai and all the food are gone. The sun has dipped lower and the day has a peaceful feel to it. Even the birds and bugs are quieter. I know I’m not alone, and there’s no sudden startle leaving me kind of panicking, because his chai latte scent is like a warming blanket over me. His presence is too. But Darius is also tracing something on my back.
“Are you drawing on me?” I ask, rolling over to make sure he hasn’t been writing his name on me like Kai did.
“I think I should get my name tattooed across your back, actually,” he says, super seriously.
“A tramp stamp, Darius, really?” I snort. But he kind of looks serious, which makes me laugh again.
“I’d never call you a tramp, little moon. But being in a relationship with triplets means everything needs to be equitable. If Kai has his name on your body. I get to put mine on too.”
“He did it in marker pen.”
“Only because he didn’t have a kit with him.”
“Kai can tattoo?”
Darius rolls his eyes. “We all can. How was your rest.”
“Two catnaps in one day means I’m going to be up all night. Did Ramses come back?”
“Of course, he did. He even did an impromptu Edward impersonation and patted your hair like a creeper while you slept. I cut him off though. It’s my day with you.”
Darius starts brushing my hair off my face. It’d be impossible for anyone to keep their eyes open, it’s so relaxing. And every time he does it, he gets closer and closer, until he’s got his lips against the shell of my ear. “Ready for some fun?”
“What sort of fun?” And there’s a part of me that’s already very aware that you do not agree to anything with Darius without finding out what you’re doing first.
“Kai mentioned you didn’t know how to drive. Since I’m the most patient, I decided I’m going to teach you.”
I giggle under my breath at almost everything he says. “Really?”
“Please, little moon, would you stop being surprised whenever you learn how very fucking amazing I am? Of course, I’m the most even tempered out of us.”
“I meant the driving thing.” I chuckle, twisting around and sitting up. We both know I’m a big old liar too, but it doesn’t matter.
The second I sit up; he pulls me to his lap again. And like the whole day has been so far, it feels normal. If normal is exhilarating and full of whooping highs and dipping lows. Without asking he twists my head around and drops his filthy lips on mine. And his kiss is not soft and not tentative; it screams endless pleasure, and a touch of you’ll take whatever I give you.
Holding my face to the side, he drives our kiss with a surety that promises I’m never going to know what’s coming next with him. Before I can turn back around for more, he bites down on my bottom lip then sucks it into his mouth. He then pretty much chucks me out of his lap.
“You’re going to be a handful,” he says seriously before he’s walking past me. And I’m legging it to catch up.
“Are you really going to teach me to drive?” I ask. After his obliterating kiss I have to check in case I was imagining things before. His kiss was pretty amazing.
