“Alleged cheater. For the record, I have never been unfaithful in my life. I think any person who chooses to cheat should be shipped to a separate island in the middle of the sea and made to live with all the other cheaters with no food and no water. They are not my people.”

“Says you,” Heidi snaps viciously, but then for a split second her beautiful brown eyes lock on mine, and the anguish I see in them is like swallowing razor blades.

“I promise I would never do that to you. Please let me explain,” I beg.

A couple of cars pull up behind mine. Raney’s face flushes red before she gulps. “Did I drunk call Koz?”

“No.” Heidi growls.

“Okay. Why is he here?”

And the jumping around of topics and emotions is a good indicator of how much these girls have drunk. I don’t interrupt Scorned Girls talk; I learnt my lesson back in their apartment earlier this morning.

“It might have been the photo you sent?” Simona says, snorting.

“What photo?” Raney asks. And she looks a little horrified.

The girls burst into laughter, and Heidi swings around to whisper in Raney’s ear.

Even across the distance I can smell her sudden scent change. “Okay. Okay. Shit,” Raney says, her eyes closed before they pop open. “Ho, you said he made you feel safe. Has that changed?”

Heidi looks away from a minute, like she’s considering Raney’s question before she shrugs at her.

“Ho, we need an answer,” Simona pushes her gently.

“I’m not a cheater. Or a liar,” I add softly.

And they all swing around to glare at me. I throw my hands up before I put them over my mouth.

Raney puts her head on Heidi’s shoulder and the other huddle closer. I think they’re trying for quiet but the alcohol they’ve had makes they’re voices carry.

“___he said he wasn’t a cheater,” Raney voice is the loudest, and the others nod their head agreeing with her. “I’m not really picking up any two-timing cock-sucking vibe from him, are you? We’d support you no matter what you thought, Ho.”

“She knows that,” Tristan hisses at Raney. “And seriously, Ho’s a great judge of character.”

“I never said she wasn’t,” Raney argues back.

“Girls,” Simona whispers, flicking her head in my direction.

“Look I think you should go listen to what he has to say,” Tristan says, her voice echoing. “Ping us his address. And you know, you can use the code word ‘die fucker’ anywhere, anytime, and we’ll come get you. Or just use the spray on him.”

All the girls look at each other, having a conversation without actually saying a word before they come to some sort of unspoken agreement. As one they turn to face me.

Raney hugs Heidi with one arm, before pointing at me. “You know who my dad is?”

I nod because I do know. King Grady, Fallen MC President. He’s a good guy for a bad guy. Not that we have worked for him, but I learnt years ago to never say never. I’m more worried about her trying to get Kozertine Siderno involved, and he is someone I do not need on my radar. Thankfully, Raney makes a mad dash for the expensive town car before he can get out.

Then the three other girls watch Ayden climb out of his car. And the mood freezes up quicker than a blizzard in the North Pole.

I go to say something, but Simona and Tristan do the work for me. They bundle Heidi up in swaying side cuddles and pretty much push her in my direction. “You know the code word. You guys go and we’ll mess with Ayden’s head for a bit, because there’s cheaters and then there’s cunts.”

Heidi still looks half undecided as she stares over my shoulder. “Rohi, I could never be unfaithful to you. I promise I will explain what happened, but not here and not with an audience,” I whisper to her, and I think for a moment she doesn’t hear but those brown eyes of hers jump to mine.

“Please don’t lie,” she says, letting me get another glimpse at how shattered some fucker left her.

I move towards her, my arms out ready to catch my girl. And she looks at them more trusting than she did a few minutes ago. I rush closer, wrapping her in my arms. “Heidi, this whole thing is new to the both of us and given we only know the barest details about each other, besides knowing we’re compatible in a few different ways… we’re going to have to go out on a limb and trust each other. As much as you’re trusting me, I’m trusting you too. How about it?”

A small smile touches her lips but doesn’t reach her eyes as she returns my cuddle before climbing into the passenger seat. “Hey, Kai, you know I wouldn’t get Raney’s dad or anyone involved if you lie to me. I’ll kill you myself… probably with some new drug or a combination of a few existing ones. But either way it would be slow and painful. That okay?”
