“Yeah? Why’s that?”

Her eyebrows bunch together, her eyes flick to mine and she doesn’t bother to hide how pissed off she is. “Because no one else sees what you did. People think I overexaggerate when I raise any issue regarding my security team.”

“No one listens?”

“My girls do.”

“You live with the girls?”

“Scorned Girls,” I correct him. “They’re my Scorned Girls, and yeah, we share a place at Unity. Fifth floor, nice views, my bodyguards aren’t allowed access, so it works great. But you know they throw my friendship in my face too, saying we’re just a posse of scorned Omegas looking to vent about the collective. Apparently, all I do is whine.”

I can’t stop the flash of fury her confessions makes me feel. And her lips tilt up slightly like she’s relieved and or amused as she waits for me to get my shit together. But honestly it makes my blood boil that her team doesn’t have her back. “I want the name of every person who has ever said anything like that to you.”

“It’s going to be a big list.”

Touching her takes the bite out of my mood, but I’m still annoyed. “I don’t care how long that list is. I’ll write down every goddamn name, Heidi, so I don’t forget any of them. These people will start listening to you.” I run my hand along her bare legs, and lift her feet, making her swivel to face the front.

By the time I’ve walked around to the driver’s seat, I feel even more unsettled.

“The way they spoke to you…” I snap my jaw shut.

It really feels like we’ve known each other for such a long time. I twist around, and with no hesitation at all, she turns to face me. She draws her knees up, and yeah my hands rub up her leg again. “So, I should have introduced myself a while ago but…”

She smirks. “It’s okay, I get it.”

“Get what?”

Heidi waves her hand around, pointing at herself. “It’s all this, right?”

She acts with such confidence, but I suspect because we’re essentially heaven matched, I see through her dazzling brilliance to the more vulnerable side of who she is. Heavy shit. Which only confirms who we are to each other. If she lets our bond fall properly into place.

I nab her hand and hold it in my lap. “Hi there, pretty girl, I’m Kairo. I’m an Alpha from a family of Alphas, nearly thirty years old, a Scorpio. I’m six-foot two, weigh 190, and can bench press that and more. I call a spade a spade, I live without wanting but probably compared to how you would, you’re going to think differently. I like reading dirty books in bed, listening to the radio when I drive, and don’t wear pyjamas. But the biggest thing you need to know, Heidi, is that I’m going to struggle if people mistreat you and don’t give you the respect you deserve. Of course, nothing is clear cut because you know I’m an Alpha and you’re pretty much my dream Omega, so anyone talking with you is going to have me jealous as fuck and I’ll be staring at them like I want to rip their limbs from their body. It’s going to be a balancing act and I’ll screw up a few times or maybe a lot, but everything I do to and for you is because you’re the centre of my world.”

The whole time I talk, I drink her in. Her pulse picks up, she keeps licking her lips, and her scent keeps developing deeper, sweeter notes which is all the encouragement I need.

When I finish, she looks stunned, and I lean over and brush her short brown hair behind her ear. “Sorry for the over sharing but you have to know these things. Now, buckle up for me, I’m taking you to my favourite late-night eatery.”

She twists around to pull her seat belt over, and I take it from her hands to lock her in and then I put my hand on her thigh and drive her away as promised.

A car joins our convoy and Bradley’s easily distinguishable in the passenger seat, and another guy sits behind him.

Since it’s a beautiful warm night, at the first set of lights, I hit the button to drop the soft top and she looks at me completely stunned before she drops her head back against the headrest and closes her eyes.

And there’s nothing in the world that could stop me from reaching over and kissing her. She looks that fucking peaceful. Horns blare and the traffic moves around us, but yeah, they can all go to hell, I’m kissing this girl.

Much like when we kissed before, it’s soft and tentative and it leaves us both panting into each other’s lips.

“We’re not going to get far if you do that again,” she purrs at me once we stop.

“We’ll get there. There’s no rush is there?”

“None at all,” she says and leans back against the seat, turning slightly and making my hand drop off her legs.

“Good?”

“You know, I’ve never been in a car or a truck without a roof on. Like ever. It’s amazing.”

“Yeah, I’m sure your team are having issues with that at the moment.”
