“I thought so too.”

“I also believe it is as iron-clad as you could hope.”

“So do I.”

“I find myself being overly anxious that despite the best intention with the deed they’ll find a way to counter it.”

“You’re worried?”

“Quietly confident, overly cautious. Why do you think your mother and I maintained arms distance from the Board and insisted you did the same?”

“I assumed because you didn’t think I was capable.”

“What you are capable of has nothing to do with it. Your intelligence is exemplary. Your designation wasn’t our primary concern either. What people will do to get what they believe they are due is what drove us to make decisions pertaining to your upbringing. If I recall, we have had this discussion on a few occasions, Heidi.”

I nod my head, still wondering what path he’s on.

“I’m not here to go over what has happened previously. I think we can move on to what I am here for.”

And that is the most confusing thing I have ever heard Allan say.

“I don’t believe Douglas needs to be here. I’m happy to wait if you would like, but in essence, I want to sell you my shares to Verdune.”

“What?”

“If you can refrain from asking questions until the end, you may find there is no need to ask any. I believe given the chance to speak, I suspect you will walk out without having to ask a thing. Before I start, do you want your lawyer here?”

His question only seems to confirm that Ramses should be here with me. He’s already shown such an insight into the corporate world where words can be interpreted a hundred different ways. “No, but I might ask someone to attend.”

“Of course. I’ll wait,” Allan says, sitting back to sip on his coffee.

Being with Allan for the shortest amount of time is a solid reminder of how uncomplicated life can be. If you take out overthinking and over feeling that is. Adopting his mindset, I drop all the crap we’re dealing with and text Ramses to ask him to come back and help me.

I barely hit send before he’s messaging me back.

“Allan, I’ll be back in less than four minutes,” I offer, before leaving him and going to get Ramses from the side door. I’m not usually so exact, but I know that Allan will appreciate it.

Ramses is already waiting, and he steps inside. His hand drops on my lower back as I lead and he follows.

“Would you like anything to eat or drink?” I offer as we walk through to the parlour.

“No. What are we dealing with?”

“He wants to sell me his shares. That’s all I know.”

“You never need to ask for money, Heidi. We have more than enough on hand if you would like us to lend you the money. I’d offer to give it to you, but I know you’d say no.”

I have more than enough money in my locked-up trust. Which is the reason I’m packing to Lowly and getting rid of all the BS hanging over my head, setting myself up to start achieving.

With a quick calculation of Allan’s shares and the money necessary to buy him out, it’s easy to see the triplets are sitting on a huge nest egg. I swing back another look at Ramses, he’s already up close near my ear. “I told you; we were very similar. You introduce me however you want.”

“However?”

“However. Of course, I hope you go with something like, Allan, this is one of the Alphas I see myself being with for the rest of eternity.”

And he’s so serious, I can’t help but pull up to a stop. “You’re serious?”

“Do we really still need to have this conversation? I thought we made it plain as day, Heidi.”
