“Of course.”
“Then let’s go,” Darius says.
“Darius! Would you stop? Everything is not that simple.”
“Yes, it fucking is. We belong together. We fucked up. We’re working on fixing all the ways we broke you, Heidi, but,” his hands swing around wildly, “this is far from over. You know it. I know it. And Allan needs to know it!”
With his words resonating in my swirling thoughts, I’m half inclined to go with his suggestion.
“I need Pack Lowly, Darius. So, I’m sorry if you think all this is far from over, but it doesn’t change what I need to do.”
“I never fucking said it had to. You’re yapping again!” he barks.
“I’m about to yap your…”
And then he winks at me, taking all the wind out of my sails. Making my traitorous and bruised heart race. “Little moon, trust me, we all know about the shit you have to do. As much as we are the three wise kings of The Phoenix Group and that kingdom is ours to rule, Verdune is yours. We’ll make sure you get what you need to become the queen. After you’re ruling it like I know you will though, I’m making each of the Alphas in that pack suffer like that fuck-wit Basil already is. Only when you have your peach ass sitting on that throne of yours, you have to know that, you gorgeous woman.”
Darius didn’t need to confirm what I already knew. He or one of his brothers would have been responsible for Basil’s injuries.
I think he’s finished, but he’s not. “As for that cunt, Ayden. Heidi, I can assure you he’s going to be hurting for what he did, and what he’s been doing ever since. You can argue all you like, but it won’t stop what we’re doing. It can’t, little moon.”
“If I asked you not to touch…?”
“Don’t you fucking say his name,” he growls in warning.
“You just did!”
Darius throws his hands up. “It’s a bit of a thing for an Alpha to hear his Omega say another Alpha’s name… particularly when this Alpha’s a bit butthurt on behalf of his girl! Come on, little moon, cut me some slack.”
“Okay,” I snap, and Kai rubs my back while also nodding his head at his brother, jumping on the crazy train with him. I pinch Kai, but he only shrugs at me. I talk slower, more level this time. “Okay. If I asked you not to touch that person?”
Darius chills out; he even takes a second to answer. “I’d listen to your request, fuck you hard so you never think of him again, before I’d still do what I said I would.”
I gape at him. “So you’ll forever railroad me to get your own way?”
“Nah, little moon, I’ll forever rail into you, but my life is about giving you your freedom. You of all people know how cuntish some people are. While you’re living a happy life, they’re scheming, waiting for years before they act. But they still act. We are not living like that. Besides, we’ve got enough shit we have to hide, me dealing with them is not going to be one of those things that hangs over our head. It is what it is, and I’m not arguing with you about whether those pieces of shits live or die. That is one thing we will not argue about.”
“Ramses?” I look to him for his staider views, to help me argue against Darius.
One look and it’s clear he backs his brother one hundred percent. “We don’t leave loose ends, Heidi. Dare is completely right. It is worse because it’s personal, of course it is, but at the same time what we have seen people do to the people they supposedly love or care for is why we do what we do. And it’s not because we’re flippant, it really is because we’ve seen some truly awful situations. We understand the lengths some people go to, but also how there are some people who get protection when the victims get nothing. Our parents never hid the evil from us, and I will not let anything or anyone threaten your future, particularly when they’ve had years to change their tune and start helping you already.”
“And the other side of what Darius said?”
“About us?” he asks. Which makes sense, we’re having a few conversations criss-crossing over each other.
“About me packing Lowly.”
Ramses takes a step nearer, standing in front of me like the strong, dependable Alpha he is. “We share the same end goal, which is to get you full control of your kingdom, Heidi. If we have to go down the route of Pack Lowly, we go down that route. I’ve read the deed they signed, and I understand the complexity of it, along with the fact they can’t get near you or touch you, but it makes me sick to know you’ll be associated with them, even if it’s nothing but a smokescreen. I could and would deal if it helps you. But I also had a couple of other ways that might work, that I was intending to go through with you last night.”
“Instead, you fucked!” Darius interrupts. The mood drops again. Before his green eyes sparkle. “I’m happy you did.” The idiot starts pretending he’s crying.
ChapterForty-Two
HEIDI
In the end I walk to breakfast by myself. And they let me leave without argument, and they also agreed to leave my suite. Apparently removing themselves from my property was a bit of a stretch since I didn’t know why Allan was visiting.
So we did what most people do, we compromised. Such a simple thing… but not in my world. By working with me and not against me, the triplets embedded themselves further in my good books.
