The Alpha Alliance has a sister counterpart now. And they share resources, and similar views—where the power for our society needs to be held by the omegas. The Omega Affiliation is run by omegas, obviously. I have no say or involvement in the group—except to pay my membership fees and offer my support if they ever call. Selfishly, I really feel like I’ve done my part and handed the baton to them, for them.
Besides, my new job is far more important.
I waddle from our car to the elevator, one hand in Valak’s and one in Gabriel’s. These two, like my other mates, continually restore my shattered soul and heal my heart.
And while our children are an extension of us, a proof of our love and our determination to survive and thrive, my heart beats strongest for my mates. Valak, Gabriel, Noah, and Lincoln are all I need. Without them I would not be the person, or mother I am, and that doesn’t mean I love my babies any less, just differently.
Eos pushes against my hip when the lift opens and a man steps out. We scare the absolute shit out of him. The poor man looks exhausted and is on the phone to someone letting them know he’s on his way home.
“Sorry,” I mumble at the cleaner, gently pushing Valak’s arm down, urging him to put his gun away, but he holds it in plain sight, as we switch places with the cleaner in the lift. And as the doors close on us, I shuffle into Valak’s arms. His anxiety is making him hard and unyielding; his eyes are black as he struggles not to drop into a feral state.
“If you put your hands on my tummy, Valak, you’ll know we’re safe. If you kiss me, you’ll feel it too.”
He clicks his fingers and Eos takes up a protective stance in front of the doors so Valak can do as I suggested. Gabriel uses the lift stop button to hold us, while his brother battles demons we all sometimes have to fight.
Val’s hands are like warming oven mitts on my protruding stomach, his lips are cloud soft, and I puddle in his arms. For someone so protective, he is so tender and gentle in the way he cares.
“I worry,” he admits against my lips.
“You worry you’re the father?” I gasp, with a smile at the same time, letting my lover know I’m joking.
“Just don’t drop her like you did last time we heard the results from the doc.” Gabe laughs before he sobers up. “Oh, actually, Brother, you dropped her in the mud too, we shouldn’t push for three times. I think I’ll hold her today, for all our safety. You…”
“Fat fucking chance, Gabriel. I’ve got our mate.” He growls, and Eos joins him.
Eos was meant to be mine, but Valak’s insatiable need to know I am always safe spilled over to the bond I have with Eos. Now those two share a relationship so strong, it’s like Eos is Valak’s familiar. Gabe and Val may be identical in looks, but Eos and Val have the same objective in life, and they only answer to one master, me.
“Easy, Eos,” Gabe pacifies, as my boy swings his black eyes at him. He rumbles a deep snarl of warning, and his lips twitch as he shows Gabriel his teeth that have ended way too many times in Gabe’s ass. But Gabe hasn’t, nor will he ever, stopped pushing boundaries.
Holding Eos’s thundering glare, Gabe drags his tongue up my throat before dropping the noisiest kiss on my lips that rings in my ears and floods my body with all those happy endorphins.
“You’re an idiot,” I say, turning to give him a more private kiss.
“Only for you.”
I hit the lift button to restart the lift. “I’d love to carry this on, but I need to pee again.”
And that’s all it takes to get us back on track. I could have used the excuse I need to sit down, or I need a drink, or I need fresh air—anything works—and both my twins and my protection dog are hyper vigilant again. The doors open, and we’re greeted by the soft glow of the blue backlight of my gynaecologist’s logo—I personally think it looks like an eggplant, but it’s apparently meant to be a symbol of fertility—both work, considering her chosen field.
When Heidi’s head pops out, so does her pack mate, Leslie. Originally both Betas, Heidi is one of the omegas that got changed by Regalo, and she now uses her experience as an omega, beta and Gyno, to be the only gynaecologist used in Darlington by omegas. Since, I’m an investor in her clinic, I get all the special treatment including afterhours appointments and iron-clad confidentiality.
Her other mate, an alpha named Gourdie, is currently hiding in a back room like we agreed. My alphas cannot tolerate any males, known or otherwise around us. It sure makes life difficult, but it is what it is.
She smiles and waves me down to her room but freezes when Eos prowls past her. A rumble of threat lets us all know he’s found Gourdie.
“Eos, back,” I demand, and my boy pushes between Gabe to stand on the other side of Valak.
“Come on! How exciting,” Heidi calls out from her office. And when the four of us make our way to her, she’s already patting the bed she wants to examine me on.
Gabe earns a snap of teeth from Eos when he moves in to be the one to lift me up but Valak drops his hand on Eos’s head to pacify the both of them. Gabe helps me out of my panties with a couple of inappropriate touches for good measure, and then my cheeky guy falls back into line with his brother and Eos.
The three of them become blank-faced sentinels as they fight not to react when Heidi does her pelvic examination.
It’s not the first time my pack has seen the doctor stick her fingers inside my body, still it’s something that they struggle with. Having them watch while she does any examinations helps everyone in the long run.
We did internal examinations and antenatal appointments with Blaine more times than needed but that’s because there was a worry some of the internal injuries I sustained from the lab may not allow me to hold a baby to term, but I did, like I knew I would.
It’s almost surreal how far my pack, and I, have come in regards to trusting some people. Heidi and Leslie, have both drawn my blood and with a couple of tests they could easily establish if I was a natural born omega but I hope they never do. And I actually suspect they won’t. But I also know Gabe has taken his own precautions against them, to make sure.
