LENNON

“Kris King is apparently too busy to take my call,” I growl, throwing my phone into my bag.

“I wonder why, Len?” Gabe says, and I don’t miss the way he tries to not laugh.

My glare back is meant to make him stop, but of course it only makes him laugh louder. As soon as he starts up, his evil twin joins. Not chuckling under their breath but full belly laughs. And once those two start, it’s easier to let them do their thing. Twin idiots. Drop dead gorgeous twins, who spoil me rotten, but that’s beside the point.

I turn away from their obvious amusement. “I told him I was carrying a concealed.”

Gabriel snorts. “After the fact, Len. That doesn’t count.”

Rolling my shoulders, and getting pissier by the second, I hiss back, “Not after the fact, thank you very much. Kris knows I’m always armed. I’m sure I included it in a clause in our retainer agreement! And the Judge even gave me permission to be armed.”

“I’m sure he’s freaking out because he’s worried one of us is going to go after him, dove,” Lincoln says soothingly from next to me.

I scoff. “Nah, bullshit. He’s not scared of any of you. He’s a fucking lawyer, they’re like a breed of their own.”

Lincoln starts chuckling. “Maybe not me, dove, but Noah ripped him a new one.”

I turn to glare at Lincoln, “Leave Noah out of this. He was stressed. And didn’t mean what he said.”

Noah growls like an angry beast before getting all quiet and even-tempered again, which is pretty scary. His voice is dangerously low as he looks out the window. “No, I truly did mean it when I said I was holding him responsible, and if I saw him again, I’d remove a body part. He promised us absolutely nothing except dull courtroom drama would happen that day. He lied. I might have been a little irrational, but the sentiment remains.”

“Noah…” I moan. “You can’t go around threatening my lawyer. It wasn’t his fault. It was Miller’s.” Noah getting territorial, in his odd monotone voice, does it for me. Every single time.

“You’re wrong. I can. I did. Let’s move on,” he says dismissively, ending our conversation.

Lincoln chuckles, leaning over me. “I’ll send Kris a fruit basket from our pack, dove.”

I sit up. “Oh, good idea; he loves passionfruit and peaches. Add those. And ask him to call me, or say Noah wants to visit.”

Lincoln smiles at me, not at all worried about the obvious double standards of my words and actions. The man is getting me more and more every day. And I adore him for it.

I lean against his arm and watch as he orders my solicitor the biggest gift basket on offer from the exclusive florist he uses before he adds the most clearly worded threat I’ve ever read for the poor people at the florist to write out. But c’est la vie.

As soon as Lincoln is finished, I blow out another big breath. “What am I going to do about Henley? He won’t let it fucking go!” I moan.

And they all chuckle again.

“Dove, I think you need to stop being so stubborn, and let his pack be responsible for the woman who tried to abduct you. Before she attacked you, she did attack their omega in the hospital. And the Alliance has confirmed she was involved in other omega abductions.”

“I know,” I answer, so tired of the argument I keep having with Pack Bailey. Henley’s stubborn like a mule.

“From his point of view, he’s indebted to you for saving his omega when he couldn’t,” Lincoln says.

“It’s Bailey though, of course I’d save her. Miller did try to shoot Val too.”

“But that’s Henley’s job to save his omega,” Valak says, and I glare at the back of his head.

“Slightly chauvinistic, Valak.”

“Not at all. He never said you weren’t capable, nor has he been anything but respectful of your wishes and our pack. Honestly, Lennon, let it go. We’ve got bigger things to worry about than a woman who got involved with a man who didn’t want her,” he replies back.

“It’s all conjecture,” I say, rubbing my eyes. I really am over this.

Gabe twists in his seat. “And that’s all it will be. Since the stupid bitch will not confirm either way. Len, everything points to her being Regalo’s scorned lover, and a bad mistake in a fucked-up experiment. It was her decision to go on and work with the government and try to emulate what Regalo did to her. I’d say he cut her from his life because he saw how fucking nuts she is, because she is fucking nuts!”
